I'm soooo CONFUSED

When I render a scene in IRAY, I get a lot of graininess. I was told that is because there is not enough light in the scene but I've seen scenes that are dark because it is set at night or in a dark room (or something like that) and even though there isn't a lot of lot, there is still no graininess. How do I render a darker scene without the graininess?

Possibly the dark-looking scenes really had a lot of light but then used the Tone Mapping group in Render Settings to darken the results (or do it in an image editor).
I assume you have your render settings maxed out. Convergence(something just below 100%), "max time", "max samples" etc. If you check your log file it will tell you what parameter it used to end the render.
Have you had any luck?
