Puppeteer: having a G3 figure wield a non-self object; object needs to morph independently

Hi there,
Hope the title halfway explains the problem. I have a G3F holding an object made out of Tempest's Versatile Tentacle (as seen on CGShare). I can get G3F to do all I want within Puppeteer, but when I try to add morphs to the tentacle-object, problems start. I've tried two approaches, neither of which seems to work.
- I make a group out of the Tempest Versatile Tentacle (TVT) and G3F, whenever a pose is updated in Puppeteer, all other saved poses change with it. The TVT is parented to G3F's hand.
- The TVT is not grouped with G3F, but parented to her hand. The TVT moves faithfully with G3F's hand when the latter is moved, and these transforms are saved in Puppeteer. However, when I apply morphs to the TVT, the morphs apply to all the instances of the TVT, throughout the saved poses within Puppeteer. Ideally, each 'morph-tweak' would stay with an individual, saved pose.
Thanks for your time.
