Laptop with an Nvidia card?

Thinking of getting a PC laptop so I can run FaceGen Artist. (I'm a Mac user.) But, I'm also interested in getting one with an Nvidia graphics card so that I can make use of iRay with the graphics card. Here's one at Fry's. I'm wondering, would this do it? I've read that not all Nvidia cards will render with iRay graphics in DAZ Studio 4.9. So, will this

It should work well. The GTX 1050 only has 640 cuda cores, so it won't be super fast with Iray, but it also won't be really slow. The biggest concern with a laptop is that there is adequate ventilation to keep it cool while rendering. The ultra thin cases should typically be avoided in favor of the thicker cases that have better cooling.

You should be warned if you do any long runs with Iray on a laptop it will kill your video card. Laptops are not designed to cool very well some gaming but rendering Iray will cook your laptop video card. I would only do Iray on a desktop unless you get a external gpu laptop setup where the video card can have extra cooling.

Actually, a well designed laptop will work extremely well with Iray. I have only used a laptop for my Iray and Octane renders, and have never killed the video card (and have had some renders run over 70 hours). In fact, all but one of the render in my gallery here were done on a laptop.

Unless the house is hot inside, my GPU never gets over 59 degrees, when the house gets up around 80+, then the GPU will run about 63 degrees - cooler than many desktop cards. That's why I mentioned in my post above to make sure the laptop has good ventilation. Proper fans and ventilation will keep the laptop quite cool (but will also be a bit noisy). I've used laptops for 3D remdering for about 15 years now, and have never "burned" one up, and have used gaming laptops for the last 10 years because of their superior cooling systems. But a poorly designed laptop, or the thin/light laptops will get way to hot trying to render with Iray or 3Delight, and should not be used for anything more than occasional 3D work.

Just bought the Dell Alienware 17 with the gtx 1080 and this one is really fine in rendering.
