Characters that require M7 or V7?

I am looking at the Space Slayer bundle which includes the FW  Alex HD and FWSA Saffron HD characters. The bundle page says the compatible figures are G3f & G3M; however the pages for Alex and Saffron say M7 & V7 respectively are required products. I only have the base G3F & G3M models. Will Alex and Saffron work without M7/V7? I am using Daz 4.9 pro 64 bit

(Planning on buying stuff this weekend because I have an offer that expires!)

The characters will work without M7 and V7, they just won't look like the promos.

Characters based on an iconic character rather than a base character are used for a particular look a person wishes to achieve rather than sales. For some it makes it easier to make a character from that rather than starting from scratch from the base. Those characters also tend to use the extra bending that are in them than in the base as well. A lot of the skins use the base rather than the iconic characters' UV so you can mix and match those, but each separate character represents a starting point for customers to start on and alter.

That's what I suspected. Thanks to everyone for their comments. I needed the extra info to decide between a couple of bundles--and it will be useful when making future purchases.

@Male-M3dia: thanks for the tip about the skins. Lately I have wanted more variety in skin & eye colors or makeup options than I have, so knowing about the skins is helpful for me.

Unfortunately this is one of the consequences of having derivative characters based upon so called "iconic" characters like the 7 series (M7, V7, Gia7... the list is very long and increasing). I don't doubt for one moment that DAZ3d could arrange for derivative characters that are based on other characters which are themselves based on Genesis 3 female or male, to actually be dependent only on the base genesis 3 figure since they own the licences for all the iconic 7 figures.

However this would mean people like miladyderyni and many others would then NOT have to buy TWO characters to get the ONE they want. It's a business model that is good for sales.
