PerspectX Family Room COMING OUT GRAINY

PerspectX Family Room --> http://www.daz3d.com/perspectx-family-room

I really like this room because of the layout and because it can be customized a lot. However, the scenes (including the people) are coming out very grainy. I've even doubled the rendering time and it still is coming out grainy. Is there some trick that I am not aware of that will make the images less grainy?

Thanks in advance.

PS: I'm rendering in IRAY. And other rooms are not giving me this problem.

    What you call grain is unconverged pixels, which occur because there aren't yet enough samples to each pixel for Iray to establish an image there. It takes hundreds and even thousands of these samples to form a good picture.

    Samples come from the lighting, so if a scene is lit mostly or wholly from indirect light, which appears to be the case for this room, you're going to have problems. There appears to be some "practical" lights, such as in the ceiling, that emit illumination, but these aren't likely to provide enough lumens.

    For indirect light sources you need to "cheat" with additional direct light if you want to cut down rendering time. Add spots and point lights, or even planar (mesh) lights from the popular Ghost Light set Daz sells to boost the direct lighting. Position these lights to imitate where the real lighting is coming from.

    There are some "helpers" that can aid in rendering, though each one requires a bit of overhead, and success with them depends on specifics of the scene. Try both the new Sky (or Light) Portal feature that's added to the latest versions of 4.9. It's too involved to discuss how to use it here, so do a Google search into the forum to find helpful resources. You can also enable the Architectural Sampler, which is designed for this very thing. That's a simple On/Off switch in the rendering tab.
