Rotate is an arc instead of spinning in place.

After moving some figures around a scene, the rotate menu behaves differently.
Picking rotation on any axis spins the character in a wide arc instead of spinning/rotating them in place.
I thought it could be fixed by editing the "hot spot" with the joint editor, but no, that's not it.
I also tried resetting all the transform rotate sliders, but no that's not it either.
Usually I just eat this and keep moving the character back across the scene, but this time- the arc is massive.
What did I do?

Okay...that was it....(The red is not the one to move/ the green one is the pivot point I needed to edit)

Still havent figured out how that gets out of wack.
You most likely moved the figure using the Hip bone, don't do that except for up and down on the y axis.
This happens if you move the figure around the scene by the hip, then rotate using the figure node. The solution is not to do that - use the hip only for local adjustments (to keep the feet on the floor, say, or to position correctly for a group pose) and use the figure node for scene placement/orientation. Changing the pivot point may cause later problems (placeemnt poses, for example, may not work as expected).
This is particularly frustrating with some canned poses where they apparently changed the hip position. I HATE that.
I understand that in some of these cases they are doing it, I think, to place the figure in a particular position relative to the scene, but it makes the pose annoying to work with otherwise.
Yes and sometimes, I don't get the full hold-Ctrl to apply the pose and turn off XYZ.
I don't know why poses from the same vendor package move the figure.
I never knew till just now- the relative importance of the hip. I was steady wondering why the hip was always popping up in the drop-down menu.
Man, there is a lot to learn. EVERYday I have to overcome some issue and learn something new.
It can get discouraging- I get tired of googling Daz+my-current-issue.
I'm that guy making a new thread every day.
I have a growing word document that has nothing but troubleshootig solutions.
Shortcut on my desktop and open almost all the time. lol, not lol.
How do I pick the nodes? I assume you mean in the SCENE TAB, I pick the character's name instead of the hip bone shown lower down.....
Bah! Now I've done it. I've broken the universal too. Now when I select a body part...it doesn't select joints like it used to.
Touching anywhere on the figure selects the entire figure.....
It's like I see her bone structure under the clothes in yellow ghost outlines.
Yes, clicking her foot, showes me her bones, but doesn't let me grab the foot and move it manually......
OKAY that was Universal tool USe Object Coordinates and Node Selection Mode: node.
NODE
NOOOOOOODDDDDEEEEEEEEe
Are you sure you are using the Universal Tool? That sounds more like the Joint Editor still.
It makes the pose difficult to work with, full stop. It's also not compatible with some of the new multiple joint pose controls, where the controls will no longer work on the correct axes -- bending the hip-waist will rotate it instead. They did this sort of thing in a lot in V4 days, mostly because they didn't know any better, no reason to do it with the later figures.
It was the universal tool. I went in and edited the tool settings - while trying to fix this problem, based on info from another Forum Search result. When it didn't work, I neglected to switch it back to the default, which was node. I must have thought the default was something else....that's better now.
