Resolved - GenX problem; no M4 Source option, no drag and drop M4 "body"

Hi,
I'm using Studio 4.9. and have the Dimension3D products for Genesis, G2, and G3, and I have all the Daz figures, including M4 & V4,2, etc.
I've used GenX mostly to transfer morphs from/to female characters, so I've only just noticed a particular problem with the male side. Maybe I'm doing it wrong?
The Source dropdown shows all the Genesis figures, G1, G2F, G2M, G3F, G3M, and also includes Victoria 4.2. There's no Source option for M4. No way to load M4 from Source.
Drag and Drop of M4 from Content Library only moves "Head," not "Body," so there's no way to transfer any body morphs. That can't be right. Body morphs, drag and drop, have no place to land. I should mention that M4 entire loads into 4.9 from Content Library without any trouble at all.
In one case, with Soto's famous, free, and very cool F4 Vincent character, I tried dragging F4 in from Content Library, which did add Body to the Transfer area, and then did a drag and drop of Soto's body morphs, but it crashed Studio 4.9 every time I tried it. This happened before any actual transfer, Just dragging and dropping the Vincent body or hand morphs crashed Studio instantly. Boom. Tried several times. I caught one subliminal error msg window before the Please Wait meltdown msg, that suggested a path error. I can try to fix that. But it doesn't explain the no Source thing.
Incidentally, the Vincent Beast head morph, when I tried that by itself, transferred to G3 perfectly. That was my main objective, but the hand morphs are cool, too, and I'd like to transfer them as well. Can't.
Transferring between any Genesis figure, such as I've tried it, works really well, and I'm delighted by the GenX product and add-ons, but it's supposed to work with M4, and M4 is more than just a Head. So, something's awry.
Just in case, I reinstalled the Genesis figure from Genesis Essentials, as the pdf mentions the gen4 clones come with that, but it made no difference. I can't get the M4 body, and there's no Source option.
Any suggestions?

If you open up the "Body" morph list for V4 inside GenX, are you seeing what I see (only 3 morphs) or a long list? I only see the morphs which load as part of the Base figure, which is to say three morphs in the "Body" section and a bunch of expression morphs in the "Head" section.
If M4 doesn't appear under the "Source" button, that's probably just because you haven't succesfully transferred from M4 yet. He is in my "Source" list, but I have transferred from him before - I noticed that Freak 4 was not in my list until I tried to transfer Vincent (more about that later) after which Freak 4 suddenly appeared there.
Like you, my M4 Base loads with a "Head" section (similar list of expressions to V4) and no "Body" section. But I can drag-and-drop morphs into that pane and the appropriate body part is added to the list. So when you say it doesn't work for you, what exactly are you trying to drag in and from where?
I have a whole pile of M4 add-ons, including Morphs++, Elite Ethnic Faces, Aged for M4, Creature morphs. To transfer them I can drag any of the "morph injection" files from
Content Library --- Poser Formats --- Poses --- DAZ's Michael 4 --- Morphs++ (for example). I'll add screenshots of that below.
If you are not seeing anything like this please post what you are seeing?
OK, Vincent. Like many free figures, the Vincent character uses a particular way of loading morphs into the Freak 4 figure which GenX doean't seem to want to deal with. There is a way round this (I just tried a few minutes ago) but it's a bit more complicated. The way I came up with is as follows:
1. Load the Freak 4 figure into an empty scene
2. Add the Vincent character (load file !!Vincent_FULL_INJ.pz2) and check he has loaded OK into the viewport then (IMPORTANT) go to the parameters panel and Zero Figure Pose (otherwise he'll load in a funny pose on G3M - I found this out the hard way!)
3. Save him as a .cr2 file - select the figure and from the main menu click on File - Export... then pick where to save him (Runtime --- Libraries ---- Character --- Soto seemed like a good place to me, but is doesn't matter as long as you can find him again) give him a name (something unique like "MyVincent" so you don't overwrite any existing files) and from the drop-down list of filetypes pick "Poser CR2 File"
4. In GenX, drag in the file you just created, set up to Transfer On for Non-zero values, I chose to use Mode "Create single morph", Shape "Michael 4", Target "G3M" and save the morph to whatever name and location you want.
5. Load your G3M and you should find the morph where you asked GenX to put it.
If you want to use the original textures for Vincent, you'll have a bit more work to do, especially if you don't have Cayman's nifty tool for using M4 textures on G3M. Even then, in DS4.9.3.166 they come out extremely glossy (like he's been varnished). I did a few tweaks and attach a couple of renders of a Vincent-G3M, the first in 3Delight and the second in Iray.
Thank you very much, MelanieL.
Makes sense, given your experience with F4. What I was assuming was the M4 Body, D&D'd, should show up in the Transfer area, just like the Head does. I'll go at it again. If it doesn't go well, I'll post screenshots.
I do have the Cayman products, and did the Vincent mats, (same varnish effect you mention, but it is a quick fix,) which is what made me think to transfer the Vincent shape to go with it. I really appreciate the in-depth mini-tutorial for getting the Vincent shape transferred.
Worked like a charm, MelanieL.
It looks like it was a double, or triple, layered issue: my unfamiliarity with Genx using M4, and the F4 Vincent crash, both happening at the same time. I heard from Dimension3D; they clarified the way GenX works - if there are no morphs, nothing will show in the transfer window, and, as you said, once a transfer has happened, the figure will be in the Source dropdown.
Dimension3D also was able to reproduce the crash, and says they are looking into it.
The third layer is ongoing... your export-to-Cr2 procedure worked simply and very well. Yet another thing I had no idea Studio could do. The "no idea" part is the third layer. The saved Cr2 loads much faster than my usual Power-load M4 and apply the morphs process. I'm going to experiment with that a lot more.
The only hitches, so far; at first, the transferred hands were bolluxed at the nails. That problem was the M4 shape not applying when the GenX morph is applied to G3M, and needing to be applied manually. A quick fix, but it causes the gen4 foot tilt thing that also requires manual correction. Probably there's some other way to fix that that I don't know about. Autofit shoes are problematic, as well. Ditto.
However, thank you again, (and to Hellboy Soto and Dimension3D!). Here's a 3DL AO of G3M Vinny. I dig this character, and also dig the many morph options and add-ons for the G3 line, so, best of both worlds now.
Glad you got it working!
The crash thing is interesting - I never got a crash at all, even doing the drag-drop of Vincent on my system, but evidently I've just been lucky! Hope a fix comes soon. Also I didn't notice a fingernail problem (but I didn't do a real close-up render of the hands so maybe I'll take another look in case I want to use Vincent again). I did notice later yesterday that the G3M Vincent was smaller than the Freak4 original - but a bit of scaling (I think I did 105%) and then making the feet a bit bigger with a proportional foot size morph seemed to take care of that for me. Actually I converted him to G2M as well and lined the three of them up together - there's a head shape difference between the G2M and the G3M which I don't understand, but I didn't save a render so I can't show you. And hey, as long as we're happy with the G3M transfer then that's all good.
