Iray Rendering Question

Hello,

I have a Windows 8.1 pro, Intel i7 6700k, 32gb ram, Directx 11, Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 6gb, MSI z170a motherboard and 700w psu.

I know there are question like I'm about to asked about Iray rendering but I need help with this one problem. When I just checked the Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 6gb but unchecked cpu it didn't work. Am I missing something or do I need to check both cpu and gpu? Cuz I thought you can just use the graphic card without cpu. And what is this threshold, I tried to find the answer for this question but with no success. Please help thank you.

The reason your GPU isn't being used in the render is answered in the troubleshooting log. Look at the last render you did and it'll provide some clues. Hint: it's easiest if you restart D|S and then do one simple render -- an empty scene with just a sphere is a good choice. This clears the log of extraneous junk that'll likely confuse you, and the small size of the scene guarantees it'll fit in the 6GB memory of your card.

Post the log if you don't understand what it's saying. One of the most common reasons failure is that Iray doesn't consider the card capable of being used in the render. Though your card is a new model, its driver may not be compatible. D|S uses the latest versions of Iray; be sure your graphics card uses the latest driver.

Also make sure you are using the latest version of DS  4.9.3.166

  • and that your driver is 172.x or later.

  • Thank you everyone for your help. Yeah I need to update to the latest ver. DS 4.9.3.166. smiley

  • Hey I got the latest update of DazStudio. Usualy when I render 3 characters and a prop/environment there will be no problem but now when I tried to render with toon duckie and 7 characters with city crib prop it kept on saying memory to low and shutdown my computer everytime!! Can someone please tell what is wrong with the studio. Or it is that I need to just do at least 3 characters for this latest update.

  • And keep in mind DS is not the only things to use the GPU and its memories. Everything that need graphics can use its memory. The DS log will tell you how many memory is left when DS is loaded, and sometime it came as a shock!
