Storing Metadata in zip install package

I've created an install package for DIM. I added the metadata files, but when I install the package through DIM, the metadata is ignored. I have a product called "Content Package Assist" but when I add the metadata files, it deletes them just before creating the package files. So I tried adding the metadata manually and still nothing.

Does anyone know how to add metadata to a zip install package?

It seems the export metadata menu doesn't export the content type.

Export metadata isn't exporting anymore. How is this supposed to work?

The first release of Content Package Assist, v1.0.0.25, didn't delete support files in Runtime/Support.  Subsequent versions did delete the metadata files and I never tried a newer version since I had no issue with the original release version.

Here's the product support thread http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/1152366/#Comment_1152366

Try manually importing the products metadata file with Content DB Maintenance>Re-Import Metadata.  On the next screen, uncheck all products,  then enable the check box for just the one product.then click Accept. If you created a "Product" and included a product icon in runtime/support you should see the product in the Smart Content tab with an icon.

Thanks for the help... I figured part of it out. You have to right click on the folder and create a new product. Then add G3F to the scene. This will let you search for your product in the Smart Content pane. By right clicking on the product, you can update the metadata and export it. The export on this dialog works really well. This means that Content Package Assist is pretty much useless for me. Now, if I can figure out how to get the product image to show up in the Smart Content pane, I'd be all set. I did add the icon, but it still won't show up in the Smart Content pane. And by that I mean that the product is there, but there's no image.

edit: By mistake, I now have two identical products. Is there a way to delete one of them so it doesn't show up in the Smart Content pane?

edit2: Deleting products can be done in the Products treeview section in the Content pane.

Normally you'll see three files for each product in Runtime/Support with the same name but with a different suffix. (.dsx, .dsa and .jpg).  I make an .jpg icon, 254 x180 pixels in size, and place it into Runtime/Support with the same name as the product's .dsa and .dsx metadata files.  If you add the product icon "after the fact", re-import the metadata for the product.

Content Package Assist is useful if you want to create DIM compatible installers. One still has to create the metadata manually.

  • That did it. Re-importing the metadata after I add the jpg file works. I would have never thought of that. Thank you!
