using unflashed Nvidia cards in a Mac

I've been wanting to put a GPU card in my Mac for Iray and happened across this article
Anybody have any experience with this? they aren't cheap but I'd love this Titan with it's 12GB memory...

It will work but there are some problems. I upgraded my Mac Pro 5.1 with an unflashed GTX 970. In normal use it works very well but every time there was an upgrade of the Mac OS I had first to install the old graphic card, make the upgrade, install the newest driver from NVidia and then to install the new card. For me it was very impractical. Two month later I installed a flashed NVidia GTX Titan Black (with 6 GB). Now I it is much easier for me when there is an upgrade of the Mac-OS.
