Is this the place to talk about mocap software & Daz?

Hi all,

Has anyone tried the windows Kinect software?

Is anyone here able to talk about mocap software? Does anyone here use mocap?

Let's see...

    Hi Acrionx,

Very impressive, all that in 10 minutes! I'm looking at software called 'Brekel Body Pro 2' which converts mocap from a Kinect V2 into the BVH format. In terms of cost, the software and the Kinect work out a lot cheaper than iclone, with a shorter workflow (I think) but now I've seen it work with iclone I'm getting very enthusiastic about the whole Mocap & Daz thing.

    Thanks again!

  • Hi there, Im coming from 3DS MAX and 2 weeks ago I found the Brekel things and I bought kinekt 2.0 with windows adapter and also the Leap Motion Sensor for hands, still waiting for all this, to test the Brekel software and after to buy it. I wondered about Faceshift about the facial things, will check everything. As Brekel himself wrote plugins for Faceshift, I believe his programs are fully funccional and bugless.

Im writting here, because Im very interesting in using DAZ-MAX-MotionBuilder workflow, also iClone is promising for some things (still seeing youtube advertisings). While I-Ray is not bad and very fast with CUDA, it is not the render of my choice, I cannot enter in Daz 200 million polygons for example, say proxies, max-script  etc. so V-Ray and Mental Ray I will use. Daz is still the best option for non-specialized generalists.

    See you later

    Cheerz!

    Hi Murzilka,

Thanks for that, let me know how you get on with Brekel as I think that's the direction that best suits my current set up and likely budget.

    Good luck!

Because free is always better, here's how we do it in Blender...

Aha! Thanks Fossil. Blender doesn't actually contain a mocap plug in though, does it? It's all about generating the BVH file, after that, I'm pretty confident that Daz, which I use as it's the devil I know, can do my rendering. At least that's what I think after running some tests with pre generated mocap/BVH files.

    Baby steps...

  • Hi G..

For the price, you can't go wrong with Brekel, of all the lower cost mocap systems, it is probably the best, better even than some of the higher cost mocap solutions such as perception neuron in my opinion.

I use mocap, face and body,

  • I spoke with him, and purchased Kinect 2 and Leap sensor... Received at home, but Im not still there. Please let me know if you used to capture with the 3 apps in the same time. Is it possible to capture with 1 kinect, or must connect 2 different sensors? <Whats your PC configuration, please? P.S. Brekel wrote plugins for Faceshift, so its very logical that his apps are at least equal, if not better.

    Cheerz!

    Hi Bryan,

    Whoa! You did that!!!

Tell me a bit more... That was using Brekel, what versions? I'm just waiting for a Kinect V2 to arrive so I can test with the Brekel demo software but if you have the time, just tell me what you used there and the workflow. Was Brekel Body Pro 2 used first & then Pro Face for lip sync etc or what? Was it all finished in Daz? I'm guessing it it was 'cause of the Dystopian stuff in the background.

That's the kind of standard I'm shooting for so thanks for that, I'm encouraged so much.

  • Hi G.

This was not done with brekel, sorry if I made you think that, but you could do something similar with it with the right tools. (the process would esentially be the same)  This was done with an OptiTrack mocap system and Dynamixyz Performer for facial and  the animation married up in Motionbuilder. Daz studio unfortunately just doesn't have the tools for animation (Motionbuilder is a high end tool made just for that, animation and mocap)

You would have to capture each separately, join them up in motionbuilder, then import the fbx into daz studio and save as a properties preset (there are some issues with daz studio's fbx importer that you will have to deal with, I've put in two tickets with Daz on the issues I've found).   Later on I can give you a more detailed workflow

    Hi Bryan,

This is all good stuff, so thank you for that. I'm going to play around with Brekel and Daz for now (budget all the way, it's a hobby) but that's the only way I'll see how far I want to go. It's true that animation isn't a forte with Daz but I've had some good results, mocap is the next step so that the process of creating the animation doesn't get in the way of a good story.

    Love what you're doing,

    G
