Weird problem with holes in clothes appearing only in final render

I have a weird problem. The clothes on this figure render with 'holes' in them only in the full render. The holes don't appear in the preview window, even when set to Iray preview.
This is from the full render:

Any ideas what could cause this?
Thanks a lot!

Things to try:
Giving clothes SubD (if they don't already have it)
Giving clothes PushModifier and setting it to .1 or so (this is a fantastic step that often solves minor pokethrough as well as giving most clothes a more natural thickness and edge)
The obvious suspect would be displacment, pushing the skin out or sucking the clothing in.
Wow thank you so much! PushModifier seems to have done the job!!! :) Thanks!
Another thing I've tried and used a few times is to increase the smoothing modifier a few iterations.
I like pushmodifier because it's really easy, doesn't slow things down like other stuff can, and, IMO, it improves the general appearance of most clothes, because it creates a rounded 'edge'.
The one big exception is clothes that are transparency masked, like a long sleeved shirt with a short sleeved option (because sleeve surfaces are made invisible). In that case, the edge of the clothes are paper thin.
If you really care, you can possibly fix this by going into geometry editor and removing the geometry associated with those invisible areas. Mind you, this only works if the transparency is based on whole surfaces; if you have some sort of fancy masking going on, not so much.
