questions about plugins

Exactly what is a plugin? How does it differ from regular add-ons? How do I tell if a plugin is causing problems? How do I disable a plugin if it is causing problems?

  • Help>About isntalled plug-ins lists those you have isntalled. You can disable one by unchecking it and rstarting Daz Studio. A plug-in is a compiled mini-application that has access to the data inside Daz Studio, it can do pretty much anything. Plug-ins beat scripts on speed (compiled vs interpreted) and being non-modal (a script pretty much hogs the interface while running, a plug-in can use a tool or pane and can interact with the rest of the application); scripts beat plug-ins on compatibility (a script will work on Mac and Windows, and is more broadly version tolerant than a plug-in) and ease of creation (they don't require a separate code compiler)..
