Install manager files question.

Hi there,

I noticed that the download folder for the install manager keeps the downloaded files after installing them. My question. Can I safely delete them? Or will the files stop working? I don´t want to see them in the available download tab of the manager again after deleting them.

Also is there a way to hide downloadable content in he manager? I got a good number of stuff but the download tab still has all the stuff I don´t need, like alternate versions of items for G2 or such.

  • Yes, theer is in fact an option to remove the zips after install but you can do it manually too.

As for hiding, you can hide individual items or sets of items by right-clicking on them, but if there are versions showing that you don't want at all click the Download Filters button at the top of the Ready to Download tab and go through the options there.

Even if you don't delete them then you don't see these in the available download tab, only when an update is available. Keeping these files around can have an advantage: the moment you use the DIM (or Daz Studio) to uninstall a product then it will become automatically available for installation (the middle tab) because the file is there.

Which is also why I'd suggest doing: before you remove the whole lot make an offline backup if you can. Because in the (hopefully): unlikely event that you need to re-install your products or your database then you'll have everything you need without having to rely on the Internet. As a rule of thumb you should never rely on a company to provide these items for you. Because if somehting goes wrong (like a failing internet connection) then you'll have an issue.

Hope this can help as well.

Hi all, I've built a new machine drive from scratch to clean up my files on a new physical machine.  DIM does not appear to recognise any of my installed content and wants to download it all again.  I think I've got all the DIM and Studio locations pointing at the right place; and Studio sees all the content.  I've tried a meta data reload / DB rebuild within Studio.  I've tried looking in the DIM files to see if there was some DB I needed to copy across from the old installation - but nothing obvious.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the new installation of DIM to see all the installed content?

    Thanks,

    Lx

Hi all - ignore the above.  I had lost an earlier ask and it has been answered - needed to also copy the "manifest" files from the public users documents.  All good now.

  • I just purchased the new toon bundle I used my download manager to download... I have never had an issue using DM before.. I cannot find them in Daz 4.9 in any folders...  Thought I would find in  Charecter folder.

  • Thanks for the help.
