Iray skin issue

I'm using FW Lin's skin. Everything looks to render properly but the arms/legs. As far as I can tell the only difference is the actual mats (all the settings on the arms are exactly the same as the torso/head). Any idea what is causing this and can fix it?

  • I'm not seeing this, with the character or the materials preset for the skin. Is this a fresh download? There are no fixes listed in the readme, but that doesn't always prove anything so if not it may be worth getting and installing a fresh copy.

I just reinstalled her textures via a store download before posting.  The only change I made was to the shader settings. Lin by default used AoA, so I applied her all texture maps to another asian character I have that uses Iray settings by default. I then tried with both the stock textures and ones I edited to add a tattoos to her. The body and face always look fine.

Re-opened DAZ and loaded up the default character model with the default AoA maps, and it looks fine.

Edit: my iray skin looks fine now too.   I wasn't smart enough to remember the 'old bad' textures were saved in the ram and wouldn't be purged just by overwriting the files when I reinstalled.

Thank you Richard for attempting to help.

Well, ignore the last post. Re-opened DAZ again late tonight to test something and the arms issue popped up again using both the default AoA_Subsurface shader/material settings and Iray Uber shader in the the material settings. Since this seems to happen sometimes and not others, does that help narrow down the possible issue?

The hair in front of both shoulders is Iray shader. The hair behind the shoulder is the default mats.

If you are rendering in Iray...use only Iray materials.  AoA SubSurface is a 3Delight shader...mixing shaders will never result in optimal renders and can have some very unexpected results.

So before going any further...which pairing are you wanting to use?  Iray/Iray materials  or 3DL/AoA?

I'm am and had been using Iray with my scene setup to use the Iray Uber shader on the model's skin and hair. I only used the AoA settings as test since I got the impression Richard Haseltine was asking if I was using the default mats or not. Both settings as you can see give the odd arms. indecision

  • Try going to the arms in surface settings & looking at Gamma Settings  (under Image Editor) - For some reason a few maps seem to end up with gamma set as 1 instead of 0

Thank you! That's exactly what it was. smiley  Any clue what causes this? It seems so rare/random.

It's caused by an incorrect save when the preset is originally created...put in a help ticket, explain the problem and solution, so that the package can be updated.
