Texture exports (in Carrara 8.5 -> 6)

Very basic question, guys -

I have a model that I imported to which I applied my own texture.  The model was public domain (NASA) and renders nicely in Carrara.  I try exporting in Carrara including textures, but the textures don't export (at least in 3DS, OBJ, FBX, VRML - possibly 3DMF but I haven't been able to read in except in Carrara and the results are garbled). 

Is this supposed to work?
