Santa Beard Iray Settings Render wrong

The Santa's beard Iray materials render with a hideous black mark on the face no mater how the cutout opacity is set. How can I fix this render?

This problem occurs in release 4.9.2.70 but seems to have been fixed in beta 4.9.3.71. The strange dark shadows occur when moving the character a long distance away from 0,0,0 (beyond 500?). It seems related to the lighting that is used (soft scene lights?). Here is a thread about the problem. Here is another thread.
Workaround: Leave the character near 0,0,0. Move the environment to the character location, instead of moving the character to a distant environment location.
OMG - You really saved my bacon. Now I can render in time for tomorrow. Thanks a million Barbult!
