applying shaders to clothing--what am i doing wrong?

jardinejardine Posts: 1,205

i keep running into a problem applying shaders to clothing--converting older clothing to iray-friendly mode, especially.

(i usually use Design Anvil's iray fabric shaders, but i've tried a few other fabric shader sets, too.)

i select the piece, go into the surfaces tab, and apply the iray uber shader base to the cloth.

then i apply the basic iray cloth conversion.  so far, so good...

then i apply a shader for the particular cloth texture i want.  and there's where i run into problems.

when i do the left-click trick to bring up the 'preserve images' option, i wind up with the full image map of the file from Runtime/Textures tiled on my cloth surface...not just the section of the image that was previously applied to the piece.

should i just be applying the cloth shader texture to a particular channel in the surfaces tab if i want to preserve the colors and pattern design of the original version? or should i be trying to do this some other way entirely?

any and all advice appreciated!  thanks!

  • Is the other option in the dialogue set to all surfaces in object or selcted surfaces in object? (Actual wording may differ.)

whichever is the dialogue's default option on opening...honestly, i was so pleased to discover the option to leave the images alone that i never noticed a second option. :/

i'll take a look as soon as this render i've got running is finished.  thank you!
