*FIXED* DAZ 4.9 struggling and incapable of saving a setup file

Every single time I try saving a file I am having 3 problems - 1 of which I know is a Win 10 issue in that I have to do the operation twice to get it to save as it happens in other apps too. But EVERY time I re-open a file I get the same error - the following assets could not be located ... blah, blah ... this being the list of the one today when I tried to re-load because of a blue screen during a render (I made the mistake of trying to multi-task while 4.9 was rendering hoping that extensive checking of making sure no IRAY textures were loaded and only 2 lights were ray-tracing shadows with zero reflections) ...

This is ridiculous, it's EVERY time! I am trying to produce a set of comics and I am spending more time trying to rebuild the damn files than I am rendering! Sort it out guys!
Interestingly - the files that it did have to auto-adapt - a Genesis1 outfit on to a G2M figure, a V4 texture on to a G2F figure - they saved! It's only the props that had NO actual import functions other than loading from my old poser libraries that failed (an operation which all other versions of DAZ handled sweetly!)! Seems to me that DAZ is steadily going downhill at the moment with it's focus purely on trying to make us permanently online when we don't want to be and everything having to be IRAY, which as my GPU is slow it struggles with so I am still using 3Delight - which I am happy with and gives me the render effect I want given that I am producing a set and switching in the middle would be stupid. But since going to 4.9 I can no longer multi-task as my system freezes whilst rendering, renders that took no less than 5 minutes are taking 25+ because it is still trying to IRAY everything and loading 3Delight textures seem to make no difference because any default IRAY settings remain live!

Please post a screen shot of your Content Directory manager, showing the current paths set for Daz Studio Content Directroies (Edit>Preferences>Content Library tab for Windows, DAZ Studio>Preferences>Content Library tab for Mac). Are you saving the scene to one of your content directories, and if so which one?
Render Settings...up at the top, Render Engine: > check to see that it is set to 3Delight. The render engine choice may not be saved with the scene info depending on your settings under Preferences > Scene. There is an option to save/not save Render Settings and whether to use the saved ones when loading a scene.
Sorry I have not replied sooner, I have been very busy and the 3D had been placed in the background. If you are really adamant that you must see the content folder list I will capture them, however these locations have not changed since 2012, the only changes are the versions of Daz Studio so fail to see the significance. However, I have noted this evening when suffering the same fault again that it is only the Poser imports that it is failing to load, now the orginal folders have to be correct or the models wouldn't load in the 1st instance to create the scene.
I have made changes to the folder permissions tonight for the temporary folders and DSON import in the roaming profile folders as it appears these may have been screwed up - an issue that has occurred 3 times in the past on Win 10 updates where it has removed any folder permissions - however, unlike past occurrences there has been no file system warnings so not 100% convinced yet. I am making a test scene now.
In regards the render settings - I had already checked these but have done so again as advised. They are sadly correct. It appears more that my system can't cope with individual content creators intended quality, when looking at the surfaces tab for a character, it is still loading all the IRAY settings as well despite selecting 3Delight from the library which is gut wrenching as my 2Ghz Phenom quad core, 2Gb NVidia GeForce 8100 GPU and 4Gb RAM just can't handle what is expected. I am considering that if I can find where I saved the manual installs for Daz 4.0 or Daz 4.5 I will downgrade, seems probably the best option at the moment. However pointless, If I can't sort the other issue out that my DAZ Studio is only poser import compatible until the scene/application is exited to go to bed, then it all needs rebuilding.....
I will post my tests results tomorrow ....
Just to clarify the above points - the auto-adapts that worked - they were models that I had actually saved as Daz Genesis models in to my own folder in the DS Contents structure (Converted from V4 or M4 to Genesis, then converted Genesis to Genesis 2 and saved as a DAZ character/Actor). Any prop/figure that it needs to load, even an unposable, un-parented item such as a dinner plate or candlestick from the Poser libraries, it fails to re-import.
Test 1 - adding a Poser V4 clothing item imported on to a G2F character - fail - DS contents reload, Poser doesn't.
Test 2 - loading a file from February created in an earlier version of DS where only V4 and M4 people were used from the same content library folder structure and ALL models/assets were Poser imports, the only DS content are the v4 character MATs and shapes I have created myself - partial success, 2 items models failed to load, a PMD file for the v4 figure, which is strange because there are 2 instances of the same v4 figure and it only failed to load 1 instance ... and a hair figure that was hidden in the scene anyway.
..... I'm at a loss
I recently posted another thread (http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/125196/daz-4-9-struggling-and-incapable-of-saving-a-setup-file#latest) which all help/advice suddenly stopped on ... but I still have the same issue and so far nothing is helping ....
EVERY time I open a saved scene I get the error message "the following assets could not be located" ... and a string of assets all auto-adapts from where it is loading poser content in to the scene. I have checked file permissions on the temp folder, I have trimmed down and tidied up contents where I can but DS4.9 just seems incapable of saving a scene file.
I originally thought it was due to having DS content on my C drive and the old poser content on my D drive ([before it's suggested - i don't have space to move my Poser runtime to my C drive even if I was to reformat, Poser+DS = bigger than my C drive)]. The issue was only started when i started using Genesis, G2 and G3 figures ... old saves using M4 and V4 would re-open in a usable state (maybe with 1 small error such as 1 hair prop or 1 bracelet not loading - inconvenient but not the end of the world). But now it will build the scene, let me use the scene then when i close DS down and go to bed - in effect, gone!
The scene file loads DS library content and any Oser runtime Genesis content but any other Poser content needs to be deleted from the scene and re-added. Meaning I have to rebuild scenes continually.
So as said, I've checked the folder permissions and paths, removed and re-added the Poser content paths that definitely worked up to DS4 and my later installing Genesis figures when 4.5 was released (that's when the problem started), I'm even re-installing DS as I'm typing this, this time using the IM instead of my preferred and always previous manual installs.
I haven't got a clue on this and would appreciate some help. I really can't see it being the Poser content library paths or the content wouldn't load without errors to build/re-build the scene in the 1st place. But so far the only workaround I have is EVERY Poser item I want to use (except people - it reloads people everytime without fault regardless of the figure, and on morphed figures I've created that includes most PMD's, INJ's and MATs applied before i saved it as a CR2). I am having to convert it to a DS figure/prop asset in the Edit menu, remove it from the scene and then reload it from my personal DS content folder.
Please, please, please someone help.
I have posted a different thread based on new problems since re-installing which reads below but ....
"... Having found a possible cause for this on an older thread (http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/67333/please-can-someone-tell-me-what-are-data-auto-adapted-etc-etc-etc-files) I found that my Poser runtimes had an auto-adapted folder in it which likely started the problem as I installed some DS content accidentally in to the Poser folder when I first started installing Genesis products .... so I moved the folder to where I believe it should be (in the roaming folder for DS) ... I did this before re-launching DS after re-installing it through the IM." ...
"It also - no surpise cleared the list of recent files but opened a file path as the last used path for a file that was created in DS4.7 - so it it now just doesn't know what it's doing - and testing a file - found just 6 missing textures, 1 PMD file and 1 hair prop only missing - the scene was usable."
But the file test file I created after re-installing - same problem - only the person - a custom v4 figure loaded.
Please post the directory set-up - it may not be relevant, but it at least needs to be eliminated. Also please don't start new threads on existing topics.
Here's the directory structure - yes I know the DS is a mess at the moment but that is where I have been throwing folders at it to try and fix it, also because I used to use both the 32 bit and 64 bit DS3s as 32bit was more stable on my system but didn't allow dynamic cloth use. As soon as I find a working path that I can drop them all in to that works allow the old 32bit and DS3-64 will be removed. Also remember - it's the Poser content that is causing the problem, the actual normal runtime is the D:\Poser Runtime Compilation, the other speaks for itself, it's so that if a different profile is loaded this content does not show, it's a simple way of restricting access to it.
My apologies on starting a new thread however it had been a month since the last response.
Sorry - i know I have been naughty and pasted an update from my other thread where I was asked to look at the log file, but it is relavent to this one too.
"Pass on the log file, it doesn't show those lines anywhere lol and I can't identy when they were entered as the time stamps are ... well ... here's the opening 8 lines and the last entry - all the same scene - the times are correct, the scene is that complicated it takes 17 minutes to load/build which is why most of the time my system is on standby not off =>

Apparantly it was 17 days and 17 minutes to load according to that ficitional calendar. The scene I have loaded for this to test is a very complicated 2xV4 and 2xM4 immersed world rather just a room as was created for a comic and requires lots of movement/interaction back and forth. It was loaded after the re-install as a test, it was made when using 4.5 or 4.7 with no Genesis content installed and created on 20th July 2016. It loaded successfully with the faults included and contains models that are failing when using scenes that include Genesis."
One obvious issue is that the first couple of Daz Studio content dreictories are in the application folder - Windows will not allow applications to write to that, shunting the files off to the Virtual Store folder, but if you save to that folder (or to a location that isn't in a content directory) then its the first listed diectory that DS will use. That would certainly explain why the adapted and converted files were not being found, they've been placed in the Virtual Store folder and can't be reloaded.
I do see at least one other issue - you have both My Daz 3D Library and My Daz 3D Library/Content listed as content diectories, having one content directory inside another is likely to confuse DS when constructing the relative paths used in scene files and can lead to missing files.
The log files were, until recently, mis-formatting the date - it's using minutes instead of the month. That doesn't affect the operation of the application.
I accept what you're saying however, the whole reason that I have the application folder mapped is when manually installing Genesis figures, it would not install them until I put them there, each time I tried to use them from the library it told me they were missing when placed in the My Daz 3D library, so it was done by necessity and forced on by the application. When I googled it I found this is where they should be, so I mapped them after putting them there and now they work. I originally unzipped them to a separate folder and pasted them in to what should have been the correct path in the My Daz library, the figures didn't work as it advised the base figure was not installed. The second application folder (the root) was added because I was trying to run another add-on, can't remember which, i think it was the Genesis Shapes but might be wrong, had it's paths set so that it would not work unless it could see this folder, adding that was the fix for it.
But I always have the folder permissions set to allow writing to the Program Files as I work alot on editing textures for my comics and often work on files that way. I have also outside of DS done some application writing where I needed to bug fix in a live environment so needed to work in the Program Files rather than an outside folder. I may be lost on the back end of DS but when it comes to to PCs in general I'm not, that's been my job for 27 years and found in the past that some apps such as Photoshop allowed writing to a file but then the file would not be visible to anything but then until I changed the permissions.
No...they should not need to be there. If they weren't showing up, when installed elsewhere, then there was content mapping problem within Studio.
But read what Richard said, again...
If you were to move them lower in the list...something like move one of the directories in My Documents to the top (in Content Directory Manager, with directory highlighted, you should have the option to "Move to top"). This will eliminate the 'protected' folder being the first directory Studio looks at.
Will try moving them up now
I've changed the order now to show ...
C:\Users\kev\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library
... as the default but am still experiencing my other issue as per my other thread, so now re-installing the program again. Will likely run out of time as I start work in an hour and a half so probably will have to test and respond tomorrow now. If i can update straight away I will do.
And thanks for the help guys :)
Right, I've re-installed - from fresh having exported my contents - and that seems to have cured the auto_adapts with a V4 figure (loaded from my Poser libraries as a CR2) and props, it has also fixed the saving workspace issue in my other thread although there are subtle changes to the toolbars and I can't seem to configure them how i had them ....
But I'm back to square one with Genesis installations. I have moved all of the files in to the default documents\daz 3d\studio ... and hey presto "Cannot load Genesis 2 Female as Genesis starter essentials cannot be found." What is the correct path? This is what made my content folders so messy in the 1st place and made me install to the program files folder.
Consequently I can't test if the auto_adapts are fixed with Genesis/DS content yet, only the poser content.
Any mapped folder should do...the default, depending upon if you use DIM or do it manually should be /My Library or /My Daz 3D Library. Connect places them in the 'Daz Connect' location.
But you have a My Library and a My Library/Content mapped...move EVERYTHING (the contents of that folder) in My Library/Content UP one level and remove the My Library/Content as mapped folder.
I have merged all those folders together placing Contents with Contents, Runtime with Runtime etc etc so I don't have that any more - I've attached a screenshot of my new folder mappings ... and getting the error from the new mapping.
Now add the two Daz format entries to the Poser format section, also. And make sure that in My library there are NO 'Content' labeled folders...if there is move everything in them UP one level. The contents of a Content folder go INTO your 'content' folder...My Library, 3dJunk, whateve you named it.
Ah ok :) was actually gambling with that anyway but still have 55 minutes left of the folder structure to move up, damn it's huge haha! Still, there's about 20,000 files I had duplicated so in over-writing them there's some housekeeping done :D
On the next plus side - I have been able to test while that's going on a G2F basic figure from the Daz Connect library and some Poser props, it appears that when I sought the folder tree out now it's all working ... will hold my breath before I cheer though.
Ooooooh - fell foul of Windows estimated times, it's just finished moving ....
Thank you! It is working. - and thank you Richard Haseltine.
The only things that aren't are the converted clothing/figures items i saved, it's telling me it can't find the .dsf's, I suspect that's the folder being in the wrong place again since I've moved stuff, I will find out. I didn't delete any files in the process from My Documents folders so should be there somewhere ....
But otherwise I just have a lot of re-organising to do to tidy things up such as grouping props in to an easy to read order but otherwise yaaaaaaaaaaay.
Now I'll try tidying up my legacy DS3 as well, no hardship if i lose that.
my missing dsf's are or were in a folder that daz created named data\me ("me" because that's what creatively named myself as author) - god knows where they've gone, but atleast i know where to start looking.
found it, figured it, I just needed to map my own folder as it it is a subfolder within it that DS creates but wouldn't find without mapping.
MJC1016, Richard Haseltine - I owe you both a beer! :D Merry Xmas :D
