Often there is a white square next to the item.

Often there is not a white square next to the item, but instead a green square next to the item.

What do these different coloured squares indicate?

    They reflect the state of the item - installed, not installed, installed via DIM as I recall. I thought there was a Wiki page defining the different colours, but I'm not able to find it (the most promising link says page unavailable, so it may be being worked on).
