Lighting

Im a new user and just playing with it so far and I'm trying to figure out lighting and whenever I try to add a light it shows in the window but when I go to render I get the opposite effect everything is all black or really dark instead of lightened. What am I doing wrong?

    Which renderer?

What kind of light and what are the settings for it?

Screenshots of the settings, a render and what you see in the viewport would be helpful.

  • I apologize in advance,I have no clue what I'm doing, but when I try any light I seem to get the opposite effect, the one I have right now is a distant, I don't even know where to find the settings, it's pointed at the figure and almost washes it out in the viewport, using Iray, but it renders really dark,I'll try and do a screenshot of before and after. Thanks

Sorry, cannot comment on distant lights, I've rarely ever used.  If your using Iray, most prefer HDRi lighting.  With light settings,  Go to Window > Panes > select light pane.  You can make light adjustments here.  You can use intensity slider or Luminous flux to increase brightness of light.  Open Windows > Render setting pane.  Here you can also adjust light intensity.  In Environment mode, you can select to use Dome (HDRi) and Scene, Dome only, Scene only etc.  In Tone mapping you can adjust light brightness.....
