Batch Render Concern

DDCreateDDCreate Posts: 1,404

I recently bought a batch render tool on Rendo and always make sure to save my render settings in the individual pictures (4000sec x 5000 iterations) but I find that when I render overnight or while I'm at work, when I get back to my computer the pictures still aren't done. For instance, on Monday morning I set 4 pictures to batch render while I was at work for 8 hrs. When I got home, 2 were done, another was just about to finish, leaving1 left. My computer HAD gone into power save mode(?) (I had to press the button and enter my password again but then Daz was back up on the screen) Do I need to change my computer settings so it doesn't go into power save mode?

Yes, you'd have to do that. I had to do it for plain overnight renders, because it thought I wan't working on anything...

Also, if you have Win10, make sure it doesn't suddenly go and reboot your system because it thinks you are not doing anything.

Thanks Bee! Do you know if there are any risks involved in doing this? Obviously I'd turn off my monitor because I think i heard it was bad to leave screen like that idle. But is there any danger to the computer by leaving it on all day or night?

Normally, no. If you've let your PC run for lengthy periods of time before and nothing happened, then it should be fine. Of course, there are no guarantees, and personally, I'd rather have the PC run overnight (where I have the chance to intervene in case the CPU or power unit decides to start a fire), than during the daytime when I'm away, but that's probably just my paranoia regarding electric appliances in general.

I left my PC running for several days in a row at 100% CPU while doing some renders and it did fine, though that was during the weekend and I was around, just in case.

I never turn mine off, I do reboot on occasion (usually you can tell when it's starting to get sluggish it may be time to reboot) but I've had a render going for a week and a half now.
