Duplicating ( or new ). duf to apply custom MATs

I want to edit a set of existing mats for a figure to create a different skin tone. There is a .duf file for the current set to apply all MATS so I don't need to apply them individualy.

I want to duplicate the folder, make a name change to each MAT change to avoid conflicts then duplicate or make a new DUF file to apply those new edited mats.

How can I edit the original .duf file to apply the edited MAT files ( ie, change the name of the mats the .duf will apply )

Thanks.

Isn´t it easier to to load the figure ( .duf) into DAZ Studio

apply the Changed MAT to the Matzones of the figure and then save it as a Material preset?

This way you do not loose the original.

  • So I manually apply all the newly made mats bit by bit one time only and save that to be reapplied in future projects?

I had not planned on lising original anyway as my basic plan was to make a duplicate folder and alter the necessary mats in the duplicate but it sounds like this is going to produce the result I wanted by making a new ALL MAT preset using my altered images.

    Thanks

You might want to also save a surface material as a shader preset, so you can quickly apply the settings to a different figure's skin surfaces or whatever without the need for a specific material name to make it work.

Yes, altering them while applied and saving both a Shader (for general use on anything) and Material (for use on the specific or very similar G3F/G3M figures) presets is actually much quicker and easier than manually editing the duf files.
