Reinstall CMS

When I upgraded to Windows 8 I probably made a mistake somewhere and the CMS service didn't make it. I can't see it in the services console and I can't start it from the start menu. So I think I need to reinstall the CMS service.
I know installing CMS will also create a full new database - This I don't want since my database is valid and it contains days of categorizing work.
Can I backup my database folder, reinstall CMS and then simply restore the backup database folder?

If you can categorise the CMS is running.
No, I can't categorize. That is just why I want to reinstall CMS. In Studio Products and Categories are empty this is mostly due to CMS not running. I checked and the service is gone.
