Question about G3 texture maps and 3dcoat

I tried blender but I just don't get it. I was looking at 3dcoat, but the hobby version doesn't seem like it would let me do a skin texture based on size restrictions. I heard the maps work well in zbrush, but its a tad pricey. I was looking for someone who has used 3dcoat and Zbrush and if 3dcoat is that much harder to use to than Zbrush on the maps. I think in the end, I'll probably let Zev figure it out and get the new skin builder when it comes out and save myself a ton of grief. The the hobby version would be worth it to me even without doing skins though, for all the other stuff. If I can actually do stuff with it, I can upgrade later. Zbrush doesn't give that option of figuring out how challenged I am with the software. Still I have to wonder about later on will I wish I had of went with Zbrush for working with G3 textures.

I haven't done any serious texturing, but on geenral principle I would think 3D Coat - of the two - was the better bet. ZBrush you divide the mesh and then paint by colouring the polygons, then you have to split the mesh into its surface groups and convert each group into a texture for export; 3D Coat lets you paint on maps in the usual way, with pretty typical image editing tools, and has no problems with the multi-map set-up used by the Daz figures (even the older ones that just stack the maps isntead of using UDIMs), and once done you just save the maps out.
Thanks so much! I know what I am getting for xmas.
They do both have demos, and in the past trying the 3D Coat demo has elicited a discount offer part way through (though that may have changed). A lot of people like Mudbox, though that uses a subscription model and may therefore not be attractive (I have no experience at all with using it). Substance Painter is cheap fro the Indie license, which is usable commercially subject to a generous income ceiling, but that doesn't currently have the ability to paint seamlessly across different map groups/UDIMs (though the feature is said to be planned for the current version).
