D-Former: how do I add a weight map?

in Technical Help (nuts n bolts)

I created a plane.

I added a d-former, and set it's influence to 'weight map.'

Went into Node Weight brush, tool settings. And there's 'add map'... grayed out. I can't select any unused maps, I can't add a weight map.

What am I missing?

    And now suddenly it's working. ... ok, nevermind, sorry!

    Ok, slight change... is there a way to load an image map as a weight map? Or is that not an option?

    (If so, how?)

    You can't load images - that isn't what map means in this case, it means it's a matched list of weight values and vertices (in the same way a morph may be described as a map in some applications as it's a matched list of vertices and deltas, changes in position).

    Oooh. Ok, that's a little confusing but makes sense now.
