Wow, 12 years later (been a while), I was trying my hand at some animation, and needed a toon character model to cut-out/layer in PS, and thought..."I can probably render something in DS, if VSS is still working", and bam! Still a solid set of shaders for 3Delight!
ENTREPRENEUR TIP: Similar body bases are going for up to $85 each, on Etsy. (search: "vtuber body base") You could probably render a bunch of these, cut them up in Photoshop, and make a killing using these shaders!

Where's the "Like" button? I'd SMASH it right now!
It's funny too because I'd just started using the pwToon Shader set after using the Iray Toon Shaders for a while. So to see someone else using a classic 3Delight Shader set was a pleasant surprise to see.
Wow, seeing people still enjoying my shaders after all these years...good lord has it really been over a decade already!?
I really should revisit the concept sometime. There is so much I would do differently nowadays.
Much love! <3
Would you do this for 3Delight or Iray? Because an Iray version would be much appreciated. The options for non-photoreal Iray shaders could use a boost!

Unfortunately I don't think an iray version would be possible, at least not in the way I would want. There are however some excellent non-photoreal iray shaders that exist already that I highly recommend.
And then there's Oso Toon, which is a pack of shaders that allows you to make toon images through multi-pass rendering. By making different versions of the same image with different settings, they can be combined in an image editor to create really cool effects that aren't possible with a single iray render: https://www.daz3d.com/oso-toon-shader-for-iray
If I were to make a new toon shader pack, it would most likely be for 3Delight. It is still the best rendering engine for Daz Studio when it comes to non-photorealistic renders, even if it is unfortunately much slower than iray.
That said, i'm also very interested in delving deeper into Blender, and seeing how easy it is to get toon characters from Daz into Blender to use either the Cycles or Eevee rendering engine. I've seen a LOT of really cool toon renders done using Blender, so that's something i'd really like to explore as an option.
So would that be a product to produce something in Daz to export to Blender, or a tutorial for how to produce toon renters in Blender, or both - or neither?

I don't know, i'd have to do more research. I don't think it'd be the former, as there already exists the official Daz-to-Blender exporter, as well as the unofficial (tho popular) Diffeomorphic plugin, both capable of getting fully rigged characters into Blender.
I never understood why an iray toon shader can't be made, Diva made a shader for iray that gives you character a toon look, so why can't this request be done.

It's not that you can't make a toon shader for iray, it's that I can't make it the exact way i'd want it to be.
Also, i'm not familiar with Diva's shader, would you mind linking it?

I actually like Sketchy quite a bit, and it's great for combining with Iray lighting and atmospheric effects. I just wish I could get a more solid outline output as it seems to vary a bit. I'm also still looking for a way to better control the transition from light to dark. In the Iron Man sample I uploaded, I used the Noir Presets you included with the original set to create a nice Metallic variation. Maybe I've missed something, but I haven't figured out how to sharpen that transition or how to change the dark color so it renders closer to these samples. I imagine it has to do with the Diffuse Overlay...
Also, might I request for a new 3Delight version that it offers support for tiling. I've got a bunch of Shader Presets that I could use with VS, but there are no tiling options so I've learned to do without...
Heya, just popping in to say that I literally JUST learned about FilaToon this very minute, and I am incredibly interested in exploring the possibilities of it. If possible, would anyone be interested in FilaToon presets that mimic the original Visual Style shaders?

I'd absolutely love that, Visual Style shaders were my favorite!

Oh, God, yes, please! Looking at FilaToon, my original enthusiasm was substantially cooled when I realized how much better I liked the original visual style shaders. If you could provide some kind of option that mixed it with the manga style shaders effects (or found a way to make modern style highlights such as the ones the FilaToon-based hairs use), that would be even better.

Does this only work in 3Delight and iRay? I'd love for it to work in Filament as well.

I'm with Sphinx Magoo, having a good iray version would be very nice.
I vote also for an Iray version.
I'm still voting for a Filament version, though not as popular it seems.
Dupe post due to Cloudfare.
I concure on Filament. And would love to see it available for Mac OS systems.

Sketchy is a really cool collection of shaders to get toony results directly in iray. It even comes with a screentone style similar to Manga Style: https://www.daz3d.com/sketchy-toon-edge-and-art-style-shaders-for-iray

Not shaders, this just seems to add an overlay to the mat preset of the figure.

Yes please.
Definitely! I was actually about to ask in the forums if anyone knew if FilaToon could be made to imitate your Visual Style Shaders.
FilaToon is now a thing, so someone must have been listening! lol
Definitely!
Seeing as Filament is on its way to becoming the defacto alternative for NPR rendering, more solutions that use it will be welcome.
