Daz Studio 4.8 and 4.9, general release, side by side, possible?

So I love the improvements made to Iray since last general release of 4.8 but hate the lack of directory highlights for new content in 4.9. So much so that I reverted back from 4.9 to 4.8 using a standalone installer I found. No, I can not share it, already got in trouble for doing that twice. Anyways, the latest issue I am having is that my plugins are gone and the only ones available anywhere are for 4.9, tried installing them anyways and they don't work. So I was wondering, since I have a stand alone installer for 4.8 would it be possible to have DIM install 4.9 for me with plugins and keep 4.8 installed manually? I imagine my workflow going something like this..
Open DIM > Open 4.8 > Install new content > Scan for new content > follow the ever so helpful directory highlights to my new content > categorize content > start and save scene > export userdata > close 4.8 > open 4.9 > import userdata > open saved scene > use dynamic clothing control > ? > profit!
How would I go about installing that so it is PC friendly? I am not opposed to creating multiple program folders in my C drive, jus never done it before. Any help would be appreciated.

No, but you could use the beta version of 4.9. I'm not sure whether your scheme would work, however.
I've been doing this using the general release 4.8 and the beta 4.9, install and categorize in 4.8, then import the categories into 4.9.
See, I have the beta of 4.9 installed but when I open it my categories are all.... different and sometimes entire files are missing from those categories. I even tried importing the userdata file but my categories are still messed up. What is the procedure you are using Mike, possibly step by step if you would be so kind?
Assuming that you don't have any userdata created in 4.9, I would try starting with a clean database:
1) Export User Data in 4.8,
2) Reset the Database in 4.8.
3) Re-Import in 4.8
4) Now when you launch 4.9 it will do the first-time database migration. Make sure that 4.9 is showing your categories correctly.
5) Now close 4.9 and install new content. If you use DIM and the product has metadata it will get added to the 4.8 database; if you install items manually as well you can Scan for New Content.
6) Launch 4.8 and categorize the new content, then Export User Data again.
7) Close 4.8 and launch 4.9, and Re-Import User Data.
Three warnings:
a) make sure PostgreSQL has finished shutting down when you close one version of DS before you launch the other one.
b) I've been offline for about 6 weeks, so I'm just trying it now with the latest beta, but it was working 6 weeks ago.
c) As of 6 weeks ago there were still a few bugs I've been waiting for fixes on which showed up when I updated metadata through Connect into a database which included metadata from DIM/manual installs -- a few files in a few products stopped showing up. I haven't found out yet if these are fixed in the current beta.
Hi,
Similar to the OP ,I still prefer the Full release of 4.7 as I use blender Cycles and have Zero need for Iray.
I do however have a 4.8 beta Installed
I posess a standalone 4.8 general release installer that I Dare not install
as I wish to stay with 4.7 for now.
My question: is it possible to get my 4.8 beta to recognize all of my many plugins( graphmate ,keymate ,Decimator etc)??
EDIT: Ignore my query, I just figured out how to get my 4.7 plugins working in the 4.8 beta ..Even got mimic live working!!!!!
Thank you Mike, I do apprecite you taking the time to deal with my 4.8 'fanatical' presence in the forums. This actually helped a great deal. I think my issue was the lack of a clean database to begin with. Much appreciated.
