Action Guy Hair Leprosy

I have a Fujio figure - no mods have been made to the model.
I put the Kurt skin on him - the Kurt skin is on the left.
When I put, specifically, Action Guy Hair on him, it looks patchy and leperous when rendered in iRay. Fujio with the default skin, right, looks OK.
So far nothing I do to the hair makes this any better.
What's going on here? How can a skin on the model affect the hair like this?

It looks like you're getting poke-through -- are you sure it's only the skin and no morph differences? If there isn't a smoothing modifier on the hair, try adding one to keep the scalp from poking through.
Does the Kurt skin use displacement?
There is a smoothing modifier. Doesn't change a thing. No morphing is being done at all - just the skin.
I haven't the slightest idea. What is that and how would I tell?
With the Surface Selection tool select the back of the head (you may need to hide the hair to get at it), then in the Surfaces pane type
disp
in the filter box at the top. Check to see if the base property has a map associated with it, and a non-zero strength. If this is the AoA SSS shader (look at top-left of the pane to see the shader used) and you are rendering using 3Delight make sure that the displacement minimum and maximum values are 0 if strength is 0, otherwise there will be random displacement.
