Fantasy Renders

I have been playing with Uber Iray a bit. Wow! I like to do fantasy renders, just a little cheesier and less real. Would there be painterly actions I could apply in Elements 12 (Hey its what I got...) to get that hand painted look or perhaps just blur it a bit? I know it sounds crazy to dirty it up after making the shaders and all, but its art, don't judge. I'm not use to lifelike aliens and fairies yet, its so real looking its a bit creepy for me. Lovely and amazing, its growing on me like mold but I'm still not onboard totally yet. I'm old, it takes me a bit. And would some of the RDNA stuff still give me that hand painted look rendered in Iray? Oh, I stink at lighting, that advice will probably be above my skill level. Post work helpers I can manage. Besides, I still want to see the creepy versions as they render.....

You should be able to do all of what you want in elements. I have 13 and it has lots of options for those kinds of effects.  I'm away from my computer tonight but I had 11 before I upgraded to 13 and it had them as well.  The options are in one of the tabs at the top

  • Lighting can go a long way towards making an Iray render look more like a painting, too. I like Painter's Lights by j.cade. And some of the Render Studio stuff by Colm Jackson might work in this kind of project, too.

Does this work in 4.9?  The product page seems to indicate it doesn't work in 4.x versions which is why I've never gotten it.

I will have to buy those j.cade Painter's Lights

  • Thanks, I am clueless about lighting so sets are great! Mostly I played too much dressup and need to get the nutz and bolts together. Not that there is anything wrong with dressup....But if I don't render things, people think I'm crazy. (I am actually crazy but it bothers them to think so for some reason)
