I know this is my very first render and all and i really shouldn't expect much but this was supposed to be darker than this. How do i do that i put the darker lights on instead of the regular rendering for day at the beach tutorial scene.Heres a screenshot of the render in progress.

  • I can't see much in that tiny screenshot (it's OK to upload a larger image, by default ti will show only as a thumbnail at the bottom of the post and if you then embed it - or use an external host - you can adjust the size so we can still click for full size). I suspect you are using Iray to render and being caught by the default HDRI environment, set in the Render Settings Editor tab in the Environment group: you can set the mode to Scene only to use only lights loaded, or you can use the Tone Mapping group to darken the render, among other things.

In addition to Richard's suggestions, make sure the headlight on your render camera is 'Off". Select camera from the Scene pane > Headlight (Settings pane) >Off. Don't use the perspective camera, use, or create, a new camera (you can't change settings on the perspective camera. If you have added a light other than the HDRI or Dome and IF the headlight is set to auto, the headlight won't have an effect.

  • Thanks for the helpful tips guys.Appreciate it.

(Merged threads on same topic.  Removed empty space.  You can change the title of the thread if you'd rather it say Criticism Welcome as you had on your second thread merged here.)
