For Iray what light produces the same result as the headlamp of the camera with similar low performance impact? I would use the headlamp but when decreasing its intensity the preview gets dark which makes it difficult to adjust the scene.
This was discussed a few months ago with indeterminate results. The real answer is "none." In Iray, the vosual effect of the headlamp is unique from the ohers.
The difference in discussion here is what built-in light type D|S uses for the the headlamp, vs how that light is converted to an Iray-specific light for rendering.
In my tests, I discovered the point light provided light effects most consistent with the headlamp. A disadvantage to a point light is that it also produces 360 light. However, this can be tailored using IES profiles. Witha properly selected profile, the light will emit in one direction only.
You can create posing lights in a number of different ways. You can turn the posing light off when you're ready to render.

Ok, thank you. Interesting post.
I will try to get the same results with the point light and attach it to the camera.
