Help needed

Hello, absolute newbie here. I have a problem with my DAZ, and I was running through the forum but couldn't seem to find an already existing topic about it, so I decided to post my own. I can't load anything. If I want to load a figure (Genesis 3 Female for example) it looks like a heap of blocks (or an oldschool robot). I already uninstalled and reinstalled the whole program and contents three times, and the problem still persists. Maybe it was caused by smart content? (As I said, I'm a complete newbie, not an idiot. I just suck at understanding technical things for the first time.) I have a feeling that I caused this malfunction, but I don't know how to fix it. Can anyone help with this?

(Also pleae note, that English is not my natural language. I try to explain things as good as I can. Thank you.)

You have installed all the genesis starter essentials as well?  There are starter essentials for genesis, genesis 2 (male and female) and genesis 3 (male and female)

  • Yes, I have installed everything, and it's still the same. -_- I used the Install Manager, and everything went fine.

    I said that I fear that the malfunction was caused by me, because I never used smart content, but last week I was searching for something, and saw that everything on that pane said that they were not installed. And so I did. And then DAZ got screwed up. So I'm pretty sure that I screwed it up, but I can't fix it. I hope it makes sense. ^^;

This most likely is because DAZ Studio canot find the "data" folder in which the definitions are stored.

    Check your Content Directory Configuration

Usually when this things happen there pops up a message window when you try to load your figure saying something like "Can not find/locate data for...." did you get a message for that?

Also I recently had a situation where the PostgreSQL could not connect, leading to an empty smart content as well. In my case that was only a momentary problem but it might be worth checking if you have the PostgreSQL up and running

  • Thank you very much for your time!

  • I think I know what's happening. Your files are there, but the issue is with how you're viewing them.

Look to the upper right of your scene viewer (the window with the figure and the grid). There is a box, which probably says PERSPECTIVE VIEW.

Now look to the left of that box. There is a small cube. Click that, and you'll get a drop-down box. Looks like SOLID BOUNDING BOX is selected, which shows you the chunky robot thing. Click on TEXTURE SHADED instead. That should show you the actual view of your character, shown in humn form.

    Hope that helps!

franktuttle's advice is usually the first thing to check when something like this happens. But in your case, I can see from your screenshot that you are already in Texture Shaded draw style. So in this case, that doesn't seem to be the problem.

Have you installed the PostgreSQL CMS package for your operating system from the DIM? Be sure you have installed the right one for your OS. (PC/Mac, 64-bit/32-bit).

You mentioned that you first installed content with DIM and then again from Smart Content (i.e. Daz Connect). That will create two copies of your content on your computer, but we've been told that is OK, other than wasting disk space. In the screenshot you are looking in My Daz 3D Library. That is the library that was installed by the DIM. Try looking in My Daz Connect Library instead. ( I see that library listed at the bottom of your screenshot.) Expand it and look for People>Genesis 3 Female. Is it there? Does it work?

Another strange and suspicious thing is that your screenshot doesn't show "Daz Connect" as the very first thing in Daz Studio Formats. Mine does, but I don't know what would cause yours to not show it. You may need to submit a help request to customer service if we can't get this resolved here in the forum.

  • I installed everything three times, and the problem still persists. I tried switching to the My DAZ Connect library, but it's empty. O.o And smart content says the file doesn't exist. Shall I reinstall everything manually, and see if that helps? I hate myself for being so technically illiterate. >.<

For the new installations, did you uninstall beforehand? Which means Dim/ Connect did you use for the last installement? If you used the DIM can you look up if you have the PostgreSQL package installed? Within the DIM there is on the right side a Tab with "Installed " written on it.

Maybe you could tell us as well which language would be easier for you, maybe we can find someone to help you better then.

  • I already solved the problem in the meantime, I just had to set the location of the data in the Content Directory. ^^; Thank you so much everyone for the help!

Always good to include links to the products you are talking about.

    http://www.daz3d.com/killer-hockey-mask

is for genesis 2 male and female, so selecting your g2 figure in the scene tab and going to smart content accessories should have it listed and ready to autofit (I don't own it but I expect collective3d has this inclzuded into props) alternatively it could be in props.

    http://www.daz3d.com/deadliest

is for M4, you my need to select it in the content library and inject the morphs for M4. After that the morphs should be found in the parameter settings for you M4 figure

    Hi Linwelly

I've found the hockey mask! and your suggestion worked a treat so many thanks for the advice, very much appreciated.

For the Deadliest I can see the icon for it but I dont know how to Inject it into the morphs for an M4 (i have purchased M4 so I know that exists) - Do I just double click it to Inject or is Injecting some other process altogether?

The Icon is located in Lost and Found - not sure if that has any significance?

    thanks!

    Pete

PS - and great advice for including links!

Glad it helped. As far as I remember when you have the M4 loaded double click on the icon should do the magic, but don't take my word on it, havn't done that in a while. I remember it was something you'd stumble over sooner or later.

Why some stuff ends up in the lost and found is still a mystery to me but you can use it anyways just normal. I remember there is somewhere a thread about how one could move it to the directory wanted.
