Cannot see content installed from zip file

I am a new user of DAZ, but am competent with most aspects of PCs and Windows. This is just self education for me.  No commercial intent. I am also dabbling with 3DS Max, Autodesk Fusion 360, Blender, Gimp, and others.

DAZ Studio 4.9 itself installs using DIM with a default set of options. I can find where content should go by default in Edit->Preferences, and by default it is C:\Users\myname\Documents\DAZ 3d\Studio\My Library

I purchas some items from the DAZ store, and they install very easily and automatically. I can load any of that content into DAZ and do basic posing stuff etc.  No problem.

I also purchas some items from Renderosity and they download as zip files. To start with, I place each product's zip files downlloaded from Renderosity into its own folder, then I do 7-zip's "extract here" on each of them in turn.  This leaves me with a set of folders, for example, with Sabby's Addison for G3F I get

/data

/Documentation

/People

/Runtime

I select all four of these folders and copy them to the above-mentioned My Library folder.  I start DAZ studio and Addison does not show up, although all my DIM-installed Daz characters do.

I have looked at innumerable forum posts all over the interwebs, as well as Youtube videos, and I know I have missed something elementary. Here is the structure of "My Library". It only has the one item, Sabby's Addison G3F in it.

  • I initially tried to paste this screen capture but that didn't work. So here it is attached as a file.

At a wild guess you are looking to see them in Smart Content? They wont appear there because they don't include Metadata. If you go into Content Library and follow that path you should be able to see them in there. If you want to see them in Smart Content you would need to create Metadata for them. Or you can use them in that file structure or create Catagories for them. I can't help with the creating metadata (there are tutorials around) as I don't use Smart Content, I create Catagories for all my content regardless of where I purchase it.

  • I went into the Content Library as you suggested and I found the content, but if I try to double-click an item in it to place it in the scene I get  "an error occurred reading the file. See log for details." There is nothing in the log.

That's a preset, you need to have the item it applies to laoded and selected. That is going to be true of most of the files in a character set - there may be a single Character preset, probably in the People\Genesis 3 Female\Characters folder, which will load a new figure if none is selected but the files in the sub-folder will mostly or entirely require a pre-loaded target.

  • Aha!  Now I begin to understand.

Meg, you have helped me immensely.

    Thank you.

  • Oh, and Richard too, sorry.
