I WANT IT BACK! New to 4.9 and Custom Categories gone

PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME THERE A NUMBER OF OTHER THREADS WITH THIS INFO.
I DID NOT EVEN WANT TO UPDATE BUT THE SYSTEM KINDLY DID IT FOR ME WHEN I WASN'T CAREFULLY WATCHING!
I have tried a number of solutions listed and frankly canot follow the techno-bable. I am also a busy person so I don't have time to weed through it.
Break it down for me in simple steps that a 5 year old could understand or come up with an automatic patch that brings me the directory I had in 4.8.
HOW CAN I GET THE CUSTOM DIRECTORY I WORKED SO HARD ON CRAFTING BACK!?!
This is a big FAIL on the part of DAZ 3D in produing n "update" that immediately prohibits access to the custom directory I spent literally DAYS setting up and have been using for YEARS with no problems between updates.
I HAVE OVER 3900+ ITEMS JUST FROM DAZ3D ALONE! DO NOT MAKE ME GO THROUGH ORGANIZING THIS ALL AGAIN!
I don't have time to waste setting up another directory and I want the one I had.
Just BREAK IT DOWN OR HAVE ONE LESS CUSTOMER. I AM INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATED RIGHT NOW! THANK YOU!

I've spent the last 3 days wasting my Easter on this so share your sentiments.
The process consists of exporting Userdata files from DS 4.8 and importing them to DS 4.9 so if you dont have a version of DS 4.8 you can restore process could be tricky.
If you dont have DS 4.8 on another PC then you will have to restore it.
Steps
1) Go to your DS 4.8. In Content Library Menu select content database maintenance. Select Export User Data Accept
This will create files called Userdata_1 to n .dsx in My Library/Runtime/Support. Number of files depends on how big your content libary is.
2) Reload or preferably have DS 4.9 on another PC. On this reloaded or DS 4.9 PC.
In Content Library Menu select content database maintenance. RESET DATABASE. (DS 4.9 PC not DS 4.8!) This will wipe out what you have got but if import categorises has failed this is what you want.
3) In Content Library Menu select content database maintenance. Re-Import Metadata. Select just User Data for now. You can do All Products later.
Outcomes. a) You got your categories back b) Categories back with some extra lines you want to delete c) Categories back but some files missing.
In my case it was c) . So I repeated steps 1 and 3 (not 2! which is only at the beginning) but breaking my categories into smaller chunks means that the disappeared files will show up. Hopefully only necesary for very big categorisations. You can repeat the process because each import adds to what you have got not wipe it out. If you reset you lose everything and have to start again.
Hope this is simple enough. There are are loads of other threads too.
Crap! How do I go bck to 4.8?
Rather than start a new thread please ask for clarification in one of the existing threads. Adding a new thread just forces people to go over the same ground again, and makes life harder for anyone searching for answers later.
The thing you are trying to do is export your user data when you had your categorisation system that you liked. To get this record back you need your cms directory as it was when you liked it. You also need a copy of Daz Studio 4.8 but I dont think you can get it off Daz anymore. If you have only 1 PC you need to uninstall 4.9, reinstall 4.8 and see if it still has your categorisation system. If this is not possible then you will need a Daz Admin to help you as beyond my skills. The other threads are:
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/74731/daz-studio-4-8-to-4-9#latest
Which say the same thing only in a more complicated way. Yes its good to have one thread but not everybody knows what went before so sorry when mistakes are made.
Thanks for the link and the breakdown.
:)
Any chance you made a system image backup that contains your old 4.8 insatallation? If so, you could go back that way or mount the image and navigate to what you need.
I honestly hae NO idea what I just did but.... the whole thing just came back. I had done part of the instructions Roboman had done but then shut down my computer and when I came back, the whole custom directory came back.
Thank you, Roboman. :)
RKane_1 Thank you for this thread, it is yet ANOTHER reason I will not go from 4.8 to 4.9. Upgrading should be seamless and painless and for a lot of people it has been anything but. I, like you have several custom folders and have renamed or deleted several of the standard directory folders to suit my workflow. I wish you luck with your use of 4.9 and hope you don't have issues with your folders disappearing at a later date like others have.
Jeezaloo, thank goodness I researched this before "updgrading" to 4.9. I am sticking with 4.8 now and the foreseeable future unless a SIGNIFICANT upgrade is made to iRay that cuts my render time to at least half.
Render speed is as much a function of scene complexity as it is the render engine used. I don't care how many cores (CPU or CUDA) you have, the more complex the scene, the slower it is going to render.
