Adding lights in Iray?

So I am on a steep learning curve and had learned a good deal about Iray and the sundial and choosing Iray Uber mats and turning objects into Iray Emitters. All fun. Now I need some old school kicker lights. I added a spot light, made sure the photo metrics were activated. But I can see no effect of that light in my renders. I even crank up the Luminous Flux (is that the same as lumens?)..still nothing. Even upped the intensity - though I read that is not relevant when rendering in Iray - and still nothing. Andy ideas?

Make sure your option in Environment isn't SunSky or Dome Only - you want Dome and Scene to mix HDRI and local lights.

Yep…already set to that. Of course I'm having problems with the whole hdri/dome equation, but that seems separate from not being able to see any light from a photometric spot.

Maybe this will help you a little with the settings... ?

I made 1 spotlight, pointed it at the ground ( matte rubber iray mat ) Arrows denote what I cloned and what I changed on the settings so get this result.
