Saving a Uniform

So I've customized a uniform i want to apply to many characters. I selected the uniform items, went into Save As Wearable Preset, and saved it. Found it in a new file but all that loaded was everything BUT the costume. In other words the Figure and some underwear loaded but not the uniform. Any ideas on how to save a uniform so I can go into a file, select or load a figure, and then load that uniform on them?

When you say customized, do you mean in a modeler, or in the Surfaces pane?

Certain items were turned off. Different Difference maps were used. Some colors adjusted. All done in Surfaces.

Select the clothing and save as a Material Preset.

Thank. Tried that and now can't find the uniform. You'd think that once saved as a "thing" that I could create a new project, load a new character, and then with that character highlighted the uniform would show up as an option in "Wardrobe" in Smart Content. But it doesn't. And doesn't show up when I enter the name I gave it in the text file.

I'm also curious why I'd save this as a Materials Preset. I thought Materials were just the surface skin you wrap around a model's geometry.

That's right, you aren't changing the clothing item, you're only changing its material options. You would need to load the clothing item and then apply the material preset to it. You can use the drag-and-drop method of creating metadata if you want the material preset to show up in Smart Content when the clothing item is selected.

I see what you're saying, thanks. I thought there would be a way of just "saving outfit". Found this by Sicklyield:

First, load all of the clothing pieces you wish to be part of the set and conform them to Genesis or G2. You can load and parent smartprops, too. The Wearables preset can contain both. If you dial in morphs, the preset will preserve their morphed state (for tucked-in shirts, etc.).

When everything is as you wish it to be in the preset, select the base figure (Genesis or G2) and choose File--Save As--Wearables Preset. It will ask you where to place the preset in a folder, and that is all. Icons are auto-generated just as with other items if you do not wish to make custom ones.
