Item Exclamation Points

Since upgrading to 4.8 I still have a lot of items that come up exclamation points. And a little box will say it can't find the file in a certain directory. Thing is, I can see that file in that folder in the Finder window. So why isn't Daz seeing this? I'm on a Mac BTW.

That means there are files in the database that aren't there, or at least aren't in a proper content directory. That's a content issue, not a DS issue, so reinstalling the application won't help. Are the problem files ones you also have good copies of, or are they items that are otherwise missing?

That's just it….the program says it can't find the file in XYZ folder, but when I check in the finder the file is in that folder. So for some reason the program isn't connecting with it. Dim says the files are installed but perhaps I uninstall and try that.

Most likely the folder containing the files isn't set as a DAZ Studio content directory. What folders do you have set as DAZ Studio Content Directories, and where are the files?

Is it set…as far as I can tell. And I've uninstalled and reinstalled so DIM should have place these files where Daz can find them. DIM has place most of the other files where Daz can find them…so why aren't some working? I wish there was "Reconnect to Media" button where I could simply click on the target file in a directory and Daz would then know that is where to find that file.

Can you post these 2 screenshots:..
    1) In DS, Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, expand the "DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats"
    2) In DIM, on Ready to Install tab check the "Show Details" box in the lower right

Is that external drive a network drive? Are you using a wireless network?

You are on a Mac...so there are problems with network drives on wireless networks...

Or if you started DS when the external drive wasn't connected, OSX may have assigned that name to a different volume.

Totte has a pretty good explanation on what happens with networked drives on a wireless network...

I have a secondary drive inside my trusty Mac Pro Tower. So it is secondary, but not external, certainly not wireless. I had thought that perhaps there was some issue with having updated to 4.8 and not added product updates, but I downloaded product updates…we're talking GIS stuff here…and Install Manager didn't even recognize them.

So I'm still having a problem and would really like to add some GIS Chairs to a set I'm building. Grrrr…

---So tell me if I'm wrong, but DIM is placing stuff in that 1TB/Content location, and The Content Directory has that location listed….so why aren't some things accessible? Why just the exclamation point? How can it know that it exists, but not able to access and load it?

That part I can answer -- The Smart Content, Products, and Categories are driven by the CMS database. So those items are in the database, but for some reason the paths aren't matching. Do the items show up in Content Library > DAZ Studio Formats? Does your computer list any drives with similar names to the 1 TB Drive?

They do show up there, but again I get an exclamation when I click on them. It says

Could not open file: /architecture/gis_orion/scenes/gso_doors.daz File does not exist.

Now I will check to see if there is some other such sequence of files. It is too bad that the entire hierarch from the top 1TB Drive isn't listed.

That path is suspicious -- it should be Environments/architecture/gis_orion/scenes/gso_doors.daz
Did you install this with DIM, or manually?

And does the .duf version load?

The GIS stuff goes back a while so not sure how it was loaded. I assume with DIM. This only started up after shifting to 4.8. What do you mean does the DUF version load? Aren't all these daz models DUF files?

The GIS Orion DS zip has two versions of the files, .duf for DS4.5+ and .daz for earlier versions. The error message is about the .daz version.

Why would 4.8 be looking for a .daz version?

  • fixmypcmikefixmypcmike Posts: 19,613

4.8 will display both thumbnails, from the error message it was looking for the .daz version. In Edit > Preferences > Content Library there's a check box to show the file extensions.

It does show both .daz and .duf, but neither will load. It says both are missing.

What's the full path to the actual files?

  • DekeDeke Posts: 1,635

I've found one possible hiccup along those lines: There is a My daz Library/Environments/Architecture….
And there is a My daz library/Architecture/

So it's possible that is a problem…though I moved a folder to both places and still no recognition.

What was the full path to where the file really was?

Remove the last path under DAZ Studio Formats ,it creates a nested path with the one above it.

I removed that path and it had no effect. I quit and restart Daz and it's still not located these GIS items. I've even done the Re-import metadata. Still nothing. I do wish the error message gave the entire path that it is looking in…and not just the last few levels.

My workaround has been to open an old project that included the item I want (but Daz can't find) and then delete everything but that item, then save the item as a project and then I can merge it into another project where I want it.
