I no longer understand the render menu!

My old version of DS4 had basically four settings for render details. The menu in DS4.8 pro is very different (and TINY!).
What's the difference between: Nvidea Iray, basic open GL, intermediate openGL, 3Delight, scripted 3Delight?

(Why get rid of the simple number system? I could understand that!)

Also everything my curser goes over in the active screen glows orange, how do I turn that function on and off in this version?

DS4 had all of them barring NVidia Iray which is the new unbiased render engine in DS. 3Delight was the main render engine that DS has always had. The rest I will leave to someone more knowledgeable.

As for the Orange Glow go to the Draw Setting Pane (Windows > Panes) and change to Bounding Box Only as the attached image shows.

The render options are largely the same as they were in previous versions.

The new default is Iray, but the normal 3Delight is there as well. If you are used to 3Delight, select it from the menu. The OpenGL ones are basically Viewport renders.

Iray is the new unbiased render engine from NVidia, but you don't need a nVidia card to use it, it will work in CPU mode as well. There are many large threads on Iray, but it renders much like Reality/Luxrender.

To get rid of the yellow highlighting, go to Window > Panes (Tabs) > Draw Settings, and change the Draw Style to Bounding Box Only

I agree with everyone else, and will add that if you're used to the quality slider that went from 1-4, 3Delight corresponds to 4 and the two OpenGL options correspond with the lower numbers (I'd guess Basic is 1 or 2 and Intermediate is 3).

I found the slider very simple to use. I miss the quality slider, it was the lack of it that threw me.

    Thanks for the info guys!

Maybe someone skilled in such lore could make up a little freebie directory of render presets that select the rendering engine with more obvious names and icons? I suspect that more than one person would appreciate such a thing, at least initially.

I feel your pain, but having struggled through some of these changes, I think they are worth the added effort. thanks for bringing up the yellow thing which has also bugged me…now I know how to fix it!

Thanks for that Szark, very useful link, I too struggle a lot with rendering and find it a real pain getting the balance right from one scene to another so hopefully 'Render throttle' will be a great help until I start getting more familiar and a better understanding.

To be honest you can save out your own render presets. I got it for DS3 and to be honest it isn't really needed anymore.

    The main things are

"I changed to Bounding Box Only" in the drawing pane, but everything still keeps glowing orange. Strange thing is last time I did it, it worked!

EDIT: no, wait, I had surface selection thing activated. Me stupid!

most probably because you are using the Region Navigator Tool, switch to another selection Tool.
