Reinstalled DS - can't find smart content.
Finally starting from scratch as my previous computer died. I've just downloaded DS 4.8 pro and install manager and the same starter stuff I got last time (Genesis, M4, V4, and so on). But none of it shows up in smart content, I'm sure some of it used to? It's all there in the content library, but that's not as quick as having it in the smart content. Any ideas?
Oh, and in the content library, wasn't there some way to "refresh" content? Can't find it now.

Smart Content relies on Metadata to display the contents of you library.
If you go to the drop-down menu in the Content Library pane, select Content DB Maintenance, then select Re-import Metadata that may fix it for you. If not we can still help.
Right click on any folder in the pane, and select 'Refresh'

Did the re-import as suggested, but it didn't change anything. Smart content still empty.
Right clicking on content did bring up refresh as you said (I'd been right clicking in the wrong place - ooops!)
When you reinstalled your content, did you also install PostgreSQL using the DAZ Install Manager (DIM)?
If not, you could go to Start > All Programs > DAZ 3D and see if you can start the Content Management Service from there.
If you are using PostgreSQL (recommended) then there are options for starting and stopping CMS from the drop-down menu in the Content Library pane. I strongly advise you to change to the PostgreSQL content management service, as it seems to be much more stable, and causes few problems (if any)
Do you use Zone Alarm?
Didn't install Postgre as I'd never heard of it. I'm using windows 8 and there doesn't seem to be a start>all programs option like there used to be, it's just all stupid tiles that only serve to advertise apps it seems.
I'm not very good with the technical side of things as you can tell.
On a possibly related topic, I have forgotten how to set up my runtime folder for downloading all the lovely freebies I used to have. Any help or a link please?
Thanks.
If I were you, I would install PostgreSQL from the DIM, and that should be all that you need to do, apart for re-running Re-import Metadata like before.
If you have installed your DAZ 3D content using DIM, then you should have a folder C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library and it should have a folder called 'Runtime' inside it which hold all of the Poser Format content. When downloading freebies, jut merge the contents of the Runtime folder in the ZIP with the one in My DAZ 3D Library, and they will be available inside the DS Content Library pane under Poser Formats.
If they are DAZ Studio format files (DUF DSA etc.) then merge them into the appropriate folder inside My DAZ 3D Library.
I've never heard of it. Or if I have I've forgotten (like a lot of other stuff).
Installed PostreSQL as you suggested and did re-import and - boom! - there's my smart content, where it should be! As if by magic! I don't know how you know this stuff! Thanks a lot, it'll be a great help.
Now to start getting used to the other stuff!
Yep, managed to install a freebie, thanks (Windows 8 really doesn't help though - no start menu! What's that about?).
I haven't got Win 8 - yet :)
From what I read on the web, I think you can set the style to the old Win 7 style, but maybe that was Win 10 they were talking about?
If you google something like 'Make win 8 like win 7' you may get a few answers.
