Problem with Smart Content

(I've looked at various threads on this subject and am now more confused than I was before I started, so am hoping someone less confused will forgive my starting yet another and help me to clarify...)
Okay, so I did it. I was young, foolish and out for a good time. I ignored my mother's advice, the gypsy's warning, the government safety leaflet and the big sign saying BRIDGE OUT AHEAD, and I moved my Daz content to an external hard drive. And now my Smart Content pane is borked.
I've changed the settings in DIM (which has no problems at all) and in Daz's Preferences, removing the C drive path and putting the Edrive one at the top. I've reimported metadata in Content DB Maintenance, I've reset the database ditto, I've uninstalled and reinstalled all my content to the external drive through DIM (that took all weekend), and just now I've tried stopping CMS, deleting the .dat folder in ProgramData/DAZ3D/Content Management Service/databases, restarting CMS and reimporting the metadata again. And still the Smart Content pane is looking for stuff on the C drive, where it ain't. More confusingly, it's finding some stuff but not other stuff, and it seems to be different stuff every time I start Daz up. It knows--as far as I can tell--where all the Products are, but it can't find some but not all of the files contained therein. Content Library seems to be working fine, but I need my Smart Content pane.
Right now I'm wondering if uninstalling and reinstalling Daz itself would make things worse or better, or if there's a .ini file somewhere I could edit that still lists the "My DAZ3D Library" folder as being on C, or whether I should just sacrifice a virtual chicken and hope.
I'm using Daz 4.8 Pro on a laptop with an Intel Core i3 processor and 6Gb memory, running Windows 7 Home, if any of that helps.

In DS goto Content DB Manager and do Reimport Metadata, that will most probably solve it.
You can do it other ways but that will be more difficult.
I tried that before, as I said, and it didn't. I've just tried it again and it still didn't. Sorry.
EDIT: and now, after resetting the database (again) and reimporting the metadata (again) it has. Doing the same thing over and over hoping for different results used to be a sign of insanity...but with computers it seems to work. Thank you for the suggestion.
