Skydomes not showing....

Hello guys, can someone please tell me a nice simple way to get my skydomes to work please?
I've read through a few ways and tried them out but I must be doing something wrong because every time I introduce a dome to my scenes I just end up with a totally black screen in my render shot.

Thanks... Jon T.

Iray is an unbiased, physically-based render engine, so you can't "turn shadows off" on an item, so the skydome blocks the sun. There are several options, you could use 3delight to render, or you can apply the Iray Emissive shader to the dome and use it as the light source.

Any and all of them Frank, even the basic DAZ one just makes my pictures black. I've tried several different ones and keep getting the same result, they just don't want to show up.

Hmmm, are you referring to preview or actual finished render ? I had similar problem using DS/Reality, in preview mode scene was completely black, what solved the problem was selecting the skydome, in surface setting, select Ambient, set color to white, 100% strength.

If you're talking about Iray, you have to use Iray's own skydome. :-)

Yes, I'm talking about final render awesome, everything shows up fine in preview but just a black screen in render.

In render settings > editor > select IRay engine > dome

Render Settings> Environment group, with Iray as the active render engine, will give the dome settings. You can set the mod to dome, dome and scene (which will use any lights in the scene as well as the dome,), scene only (just lights and light-emitters in the scene), and SunSky (allows you to set the time of day and location to get simulated daylight).

If you want to use Skydomes, change the render engine from Iray to 3Delight.
The Skydomes were created for 3Delight rendering, and in Iray, all they do is block off the light of the sun, or the HDRI-dome.

For use in Iray, please look at these threads:
