Iray Missing? New User.

Greetings,
I'm sure I've missed something. But ... I was going through a tutorial, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QURC4WYQ2SE by dreamlight 3d on Iray when the tutorial took me to the shaders and ... I was following and there was NO iray. I being inquisitive am theorizing that I may be pointing to the wrong file set again? (I have several I've been working with). Thanks again for help.
Boni
I'm doing a scan now in hopes. No Luck.

I will assume you have installed "Default Lights and Shaders for DAZ Studio 4.8+" from the DS? If not, Install them first.
https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files#prod_13176
If yes, you are supposed to find them in Daz Library --> Shader Presets --> Iray
If you have installed them, but they are not there, it might be a problem of the installation. The solution would depend on furter information in that case.
(Also, the Video uses an early BETA version of 4.8, and some things have changed since then.)
I've searched the system ... and I've even noted that the render setting is nvidia iray. But in iray is missing from the shaders selection.
Head slap! Thanks.
The Lights and Shaders were only made available long after the release of 4.8, so it's quite possible that you downloade and installed 4.8 without them.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that everything will show up in place once you have installd them. :-)
Still can't find it in reference to the tutorial. I'm wondering if it is a ... built in and I need to find another way to make an object be a light-emitter (sorry, term used in Poser).
Hi,
The iray shaders where a separate download, unless that has changed very recently. (I downloaded the update yesterday).
If using DIM(Daz Install Manager), have a look for "Iray Support Content".
(it may still be named "Public Beta Iray Support Content")
Thank you ... that helps a lot ... on my way over there!
I'm such a novice. Where would I find these updates? I can't find them in DIM or on the site.
Can you post a screenshot of your DIM downloads tab so we can see if something is off and hiding the download
It now appears DAZ have moved the Iray shaders (no longer a separate download) and now bundle them with the:- "Default Lights and Shaders for Daz Studio 4.8+"
Have you downloaded / installed that file?
This is all there is in the updates.
Perhaps the update was included in the "LIghts ..." package or DS 4.8 as I installed all of that yesterday as well.
There are still 2 downloads waiting for installation in "Ready to Install" in your screenshot... is it perhaps in there and not installed?
Victoria 6 (which I already installed) and DSON which I've also installed.
try uninstalling and reinstalling the default Lights and Shaders. I just had to do that to get the Iray shaders to show metadata (though you should still see them in the Content Library, DAZ Studio Formats>Content Library Folder>Shader Presets>Iray>DAZ Uber, where "Content Library Folder" is the folder you installed to, even without the Smart Content.
I have to go fix dinner ... but just wanted you to know that the reinstall failed repeatedly, including deleting the file and re-downloading it. We'll have to start again tomorrow. :) Hea, this is what it's all about. tweaking, until it's the way we want.
I'm not seeing lights labeled anything like Iray or Nvidia. Downloaded 4.8 yesterday. And here is maybe a stupid question...do you have to have a Nvidia graphics card. Which I don't. You have my permission to LoL if you want. ;)
Here is my lights window...
Where in this listing do I find the lights. <------------- noob</p>
No. You will be able to use DAZ Studio 4.8 the same as anyone else, with or without an Nvidia card. However, to use your GPU (processor on the graphics card) to complete any renders, you do need a CUDA-enabled Nvidia card. Otherwise Iray will simply default to your CPU. It will be slower to render, but it will work. Alternatively, you can still use 3Delight to render.
As for your lights, you need to select one of the categories from the left pane for anything to show up in the right pane.
Lights. Okay...
For me, my light buttons are at the top.
Create a new Distant Light etc. Those buttons are to the right of the Save, Load, etc.
You could also go to Create at the very top menus. All the same Light functions are in there.
OR you could also create a "mesh" light. Take any object, and apply a light emitter surface to it, which is a little more involved than clicking on a Light button, but will add a ton of new tricks to your lighting.
We’ve also created a pointer page that shows various threads on Iray that have been very helpful. Rather than start new Iray pages, please check these sources first since it keeps the places to look for information simplified. These are also pages where many Iray users have been discussing Iray topics and so may be much more helpful to you. When there are dozens of threads, one forgets where they saw what and information may be posted that is very helpful but gets missed.

Lights are labelled the same as before, and load the same as before in 3Delight.
But if you go to the Parameter settings of, for example, a point light, you will find at the bottom settings for "Luminence" and "Temperature".
Luminence controls how bright your light is (a good start setting is around 45.000 units, except for distant lights, which work best between 10-15 units). Temperature controls the color of the light - the lower the temperature, the reddisher the light, the higher, the "bluisher". In the default setting, it's set to the color of bright daytime light.

Thanks for the answer, slow I can handle. As far as the lights showing up I know that ;-) Just wanted to know if there was a particular category.
Thanks for that!
Nice little tutorial, easy to picture in my small brain. Printing this out.
As for my original issue ... I solved it.. It had to be installed in a different directory. In case someone else has the same problem with DIM. :)
