Worthwhile to upgrade to Daz 4.8 if you don't have the NVIDA processor?

Hi. My computer is a Core i5 with only 4gig of ram, and does not have the NVIDA processor. So is it worthwhile to upgrade to the new DAZ 4.8? I'd hate to update it and then find that it over taxes my computer resources for little benefit. Just like to hear some thoughts and experiences others had with it. I'm pretty new with the program as well, and probably won't require all the new features anyway. Thank you.

Untill I got a new computer two weeks ago my specs were about the same as yours. Iray with just CPU can be slower than 3dl. But most of my renders were comparable to 3dl with a good uberlight set up. I've seen several people post that they think that 3dl renders faster in this version.

Don't forget, the new Iray renderer is only the new default, 3Delight is still available as an option. And there's a new 3Delight version in 4.8 so renders should be a bit faster.

    In a word, yes...upgrade.

There are quite a number of improvements and fixes in 3Delight, so, yes it is well worth it.

I'm playing around with the Released 4.8 and are having problems with adding lights. If I use the built in Iray lighting in the render settings everything renders ok but without any shadows. If I add my own lights, I get a completely black render. Do I need to disable Iray's built-in lighting if I add my own? Another thing I've noticed is that I don't see a setting to change from the Iray to the 3Delight render engine as the Beta had. Am I just not looking in the right place or have they removed it?

    Thanks.
