Is it possible to keep Daz Studio 4.7. when you install the new Iray Version?

AFAIK you can have only one production version of DS4 installed.

No; you can have more than one DAZ Studio Versions on the same PC.

On my old Laptop I had DAZ Studio 4.5, 4.6, 4.7 and 4.8 Beta installed and everyone worked.

The Beta version is ONLY available through the DIM, because it has to be installed into a different place than the release build, so that you can have both installed on the same machine.

You cannot have, for example, both release versions of DAZ Studio, 4.7 and 4.8 on the same machine. The only way it can be done, is to have the 32 bit version of say 4.7, and the 64 bit version of the new 4.8, in other words, two different bit depths.

Having more than one production build installed is not supported - if you manage to do it and bad things happen, on your own head be the consequences.

would not doing a manual install to a different directory for 4.8 allow one to keep both installed? I would prefer to run in parallel until I decide if 4.8 is worth committing to..

I don`t know how but I had 3 Versions, all 3 as 64 bit Version, installed.
4.5 (64 bit) was installed manually withaout DIM, 4.6 (64 bit) was also installed manually without DIM but on a second partition of the Hard Drive; 4.7 (64 bit) was installed with DIM on the same Partition than 4.5... and all worked well

    EDIT:
I don`t wanted this... it only happens...

I asked because I'm a beginner with DAZ, just started a few weeks ago, and I had a steep learning curve for it. Now it changes to a new version with a new render machine, which irritates me very much. Does the new version work with all the old stuff, shaders and such included? Can I still use the old render machine? If not, I would prefer to keep the old version alongside a new one.

IRay is an 'extra' Render Engine, 3Delight is still there as usual.

All of the content that you have already installed will still work with DS4.8. Shaders are specific to the Render Engine, so the ones that work for 3Delight will not work correctly with IRay.

You don't have to use IRay if you don't want to, but there have also been improvements to the 3Delight render engine in this 4.8 build as well, so it is probably worth upgrading. There are a few other changes to, but they are easy enough to work with, and you know where we are if you have any questions.
