Export/Import Texture and UV maps

I'm new to the technical side of Daz Studio. What I'm trying to do is create custom textures for a creature. What would seem easiest to me is to export the texture map, manipulate it to how I want it to look, then import it as an optional texture for the model. I'm not sure how to go about this.

I can use a graphics program to make or change the texture map, I know you don't do that inside Daz. I just need to access that map.

I'm not seeing an obvious tutorial for this, but I probably missed something. Can someone point out relevant tutorials, or suggest software to extract that map? For example, I just got Hexagon and have been starting to work with Blender.

Thanks

First off, if all you are wanting to do is create new diffuse textures and maybe bump/displacement maps, a lot of the work may already be done for you. If the item in question is a store product, have you looked on the item's page in your store account? Many have template files...that's what they are for.

If all you are wanting is alter an existing texture, select the item, in the Scene pane, then switch over to Surfaces. Then, in the Diffuse slot for that surface you'll see a small version of the texture in the Diffuse Color slot...if you hover over that image, it will show the file info.

Also, when you have the altered/new image...that is where you will load it. Just click on that image icon in the Diffuse Color and select Browse. It will open a dialog box that will allow you to browse and select the new file.

It's advisable to use unique names, even if altering an existing image, when saving them. (DIM will overwrite files of the same name, when it updates, so your edits would be lost if you used the original name.)

That answered all my questions. I didn't see the templates and those exactly what I'm after. Thanks so much :)

    You're welcome.

The templates have been moved around and are easy to miss...they used to be available on the product's main store page, for some things. Most unique items/UVs have them, so if you might want to make some new textures, grab them when you first download. I don't know if the DIM can be set up to grab them or not...never tried and never bothered to look.

As far as I can tell the DIM doesn't deal with the templates. But then again I have a lot of problems with the DIM. I use two different Macs, and on the one using the more current OS the DIM works fine, but I can't use Bryce (not that big an issue). My older Mac, using 10.6.8, the DIM mostly works but some files it dumps in places Studio can't see. I can remap the content but it takes time - at least I'm learning where everything is supposed to go.
