Hi. I'm new to Daz. I just downloaded Daz Studio 4.7 Pro. I can't seem to animate figures. I'm watching beginning tutorials but can't find what's wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
Animate2 ist a tool that helps you using pre-made motion blocks. It is helpful, but not neccessary for animation. It doesn't need a specific figure to work with, but can be used with all content.
That said, you say you can animate objects, but not characters. Can you desribe the steps you do when animating you character?

I managed to animate a figure and render a movie. I'm still trying to get a handle on basic controls. If aniMate 2 has presets for basic movements like walking, running, etc... I think I'll get it.
I'm liking Daz so far.
Search the shop for aniblocks to find out what is available.
And there is the fact that each generation figure has its own skeleton structure. If you use an aniblock of walk for M/V4 on Genesis, for example, the feet will stick upwards in a weird angle, making it look like they are walking on their heels.
If you want to do animations, in my opinion the essential pluggins you need are keyMate and graphMate.
AniMate2 is useful also, but it is basically a tool for combining pre-made motions. You need to buy a lot of sets of pre-made motions and the selection is limiting.
If you want to create your own motions, you really need keymate and graphmate. to allow you to make the motions look smooth and realistic. You can take pre-made ani-blocks from AniMate2 over to the regular timeline and refine them for your particular scene using keymate and graphmate.
Even after the 30 day trial is up, you will still have animate lite, which may be all you need. When I've done animations I used keymate and graphmate all the time for the bulk of the work. I found a couple of pre-made motions I could use in a few places and transfered them from animate2 to the timeline so I could refine them and connect them smoothly to the rest of the animation. I'm not sure I did anything in animate that I could not have done with animate lite.
Thanks.
I managed to get everything going. I'm looking to animate robots with different backgrounds. That kind of thing. I'm used to doing a lot in Vue and Daz seems to be much faster and simpler. I think I probably won't need animate 2 but I'll be looking at extra content.

I see aniMate 2 is a purchase. It say's;
Compatible figures: No
Not sure what this means.

It's not that simple.
First, animate2 is a tool. Unless you create your own AniBlocks, you will have to buy them separately.

DAZ Studio includes a version of AniMate 2 that works fully for thirty days, then switches to a Lite mode (that still allows you to use AniBlocks).
I still have a lot to learn obviously. AniMate 2 loads up but I can't get it to work.
