Monsters in my Cupboard - Randomizer Problem
I bought Monsters in my Cupboard http://www.daz3d.com/monsters-in-my-cupboard in todays Flash Sale and have some problem with the Randomizer, it won`t work because it say Random Monster.pz2 File does not exist... but it exist and is in the right Folder (see screenshot).
Can anyone tell me how to fix that Problem?
I`m using DAZ Studio 4.8 (64 Bit)

It says on the Product Page:
That means that it should be using the 'Random Monster.DSA' file inside DAZ Studio, and NOT the PZ2 one. Can you show a screenshot of your installed files from the Content Library pane please?
Also have a look in Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, and make sure that your content is set up correctly. 4.8 is the Beta version, and it only sets up the default library (My DAZ 3D Library)
If you still have DS4.7 installed, try it there and see if it works. You can have both 4.7 and 4.8 installed at the same time.
same problem within DAZ Studio 4.7
here are the screenshot of the Content Library Pane and of the Content Directory Manager
All three of the Random scripts have an exclamation mark beside them, which usually means that they have duplicate entries in the database.
Instead of trying to load from the Products, look in Poser Formats > Dokumente instead, they may well load from there.
If you look at the two icons at the very bottom, Toon Cupboard and Toon Monster, there is a little scroll icon at the top left corner of the icon, that shows that the DAZ Studio version will be used instead of the Poser one. That icon does not appear in the other items, so there is something wrong with your database entries
Another useful thing to do, is go to Edit > Preferences > Content Library and tick the box 'Show File Extensions' that will show you whtehr it is trying to load a PZ2 or a DSA file. When using DAZ Studio, it should only display the DSA one.
You could try to fix the db by using the drop-down menu in the Content Library pane, Content DB Maintenance, and selecting Re-Import Metadata, that may fix it.
Fileextension say the thee Icons from the Randomizer are refering to the pz2 files...
I reimport the Metadata but the error still occure...
I did a uninstall and reinstall. The same Icons appear, no Icon for DAZ Studio.
The only difference now is that after a few times trying to load the Randomizer the three Icons completely disappear from the Content.
The Runtime Folder shows the pz2 File (wich the Icon is trying to load) and also the dsa File (as seen in the screenshot from the earlier post).
I see that you have a folder listed in the Content Directory Manager under Poser Content 'My DAZ Poser Content' , what do you have inside that folder?
Can you please post a screenshot of what is contained inside the D:\Documente folder? There must be a problem with the way it is structured to cause the problems that you are seeing.
I hope this are the screenshots you want.
My DAZ Poser Content is content from other stores (Rendersity and so on)
D: Document is my Default DAZ Studio Folder were DIM install everything from DAZ (I don`t use C Documents because it is a small solid state Drive wich only contain Windows and a few things that were pre-installed)
I am sorry for all the trouble that you are having.
It looks like your folders are set up correctly, just a few more questions. Did you try looking in the Content Library pane under Poser Formats > Dokumente > Pose > 3dUnivers - Toon etc. to see if you can see and load the Randomizer scripts from there?
In the Products under 'M', can you please right-click on the icon for one of the scripts that are shown for the Randomizers, and select 'Browse to File Location'. That should take you to the folder where these files are installed into, make sure that it is where it should be.
Also, inside DIM, you could go to the Installed tab, select the Monsters in my Cupboard install, right-click and then select Show Installed Files. That will show you where the files were installed to. These are also clickable links.
Hopefully that will give a clue as to what has happened. I am baffled at the moment, as DAZ Studio should pick up the fact that there are DSA files there as well as PZ2, and should attempt to run the DSA and NOT the PZ2.
Inside DIM it shows the files installed at D:/Documents were it should be (see screenshot)
If I try to select "brwose to file location" nothing happen, it don`t open an Explorer window (that only happen with the Randomizer files) and after doing so the 3 Randomizer Icons disappear, (but they are in the Runtime when I search manually) and only show up again after uninstall and reinstall of the product.
If I go to Poser Formats > Dokumente > Pose > 3dUnivers - Toon the Randomizer are their and they have the correct DAZ Studio Icons with scroll in the top left Corner and they work.
But these are the ones that have to appear in the Smart Content and not in the Poser Formats, right?
It has been pointed out to me, that you have several nested folders, and that could well be the problem here with these items not working in Smart Content.
Just to be clear, you can get them to work when you use Poser Formats in the Content Library pane? If so, it is a matter of moving some content folders to there correct places.
You have two folders which both contain DAZ Studio Format content, and they are inside one another.
First you have 'Dokumente' which is what I would expect to be a DAZ Studio Formats folder. It has all the folders that it should have with two exceptions. It contains a folder called 'My DAZ Poser Content' and another one called 'My Library' These should be 'top level' folders, listed seperatley, and NOT nested inside the main Dokumente folder
To explain, inside 'My DAZ Poser Content' you have a folder called 'My Library' which should be a DAZ Studio Formats folder, you also have a folder called 'data' which is also a DS folder, and should be merged with the main 'data' folder inside Dokumente. I don't know what is inside the 'My Library' folder, but it is not listed anywhere, to DAZ Studio will NOT see it at all.
What you would need is a structure where all of these folders are inside a top level (containing) folder as shown below:
D:\DAZ Poser Content\My DAZ 3D Library (your main DAZ Studio Formats folder that will be used by DIM in place of Dokumente)
D:\DAZ Poser Content\My Library
D:\DAZ Poser Content\My DAZ Poser Content
You can either merge all of these folders together into one library, or keep them separate as shown above.
If you need further help with this, I'm sure we can help more.
EDIT:
You also have a folder called 'Content' inside Dokumente which is an even older version of a DAZ Studio Content folder, nothing inside that will appear either unless it is merged with the main folder.
Yes; they work from the Poser Formats.
The structure is a bit tricky, yes...
D: Dokuments is (as you said) my Default Path for everything installed through DIM (it`s because DAZ Studio is also installed on D)
The My Library Folder is created from DAZ Studio and because of this I leave it; inside this folder is a Runtime folder with a Face [removed]I think I could move this to the main Runtime folder)
The Problem with the structure is when I install 3.Party Content I`m not sure if should move it to the DAZ Folder or to the Poser Folder and because of this I let them install werever they want... (but created the My DAZ Poser Content because in this way I know were to search for it in the fact that it won`t work) wich often resulting in a very long path and didn`t work... for example I have one...
DAZ Studio Formats/My DAZ 3D Library/People/Genesis2Female/Poses/C1/Pole Dance
wich contains Poses but they dont show up in the contentLibrary Pane
But even DIM create such Path, for example (and look at the Path it is same as a 3.Party Product uses later)
DAZ Studio Formats/My DAZ 3D Library/People/Genesis2Female/Poses/Everyday Josie
and even their, nothing shows up in the Content Library Pane
But if I check the folders the needed files are their - they only did not show up inside DAZ Studio
DIM also create a Path
Poser Formats/My DAZ 3D Library/Poses/DAZ Genesis/Characters/Thornworks/Emiko/Default Materials in wich nothing appears (but their is something in the folder)
Inside this Path their are also Genesis2Female Folders from Giselle6 and FangTastic in wich nothing appears (even their is something in the Folders)
and as I said; they are created from DIM
The problem is that the folders are 'nested' one inside the other, and DAZ Studio has not been told where they are. DIM does not communicate with DAZ Studio, so you need to enter the path yourself.
You need to have a clear structure so that you can enter the appropriate paths in the Content Directory Manager.
There is nothing to stop you having another library folder for Poser content bought from other stores, many people do, but what you cannot do, is to nest it inside of another folder. It needs to have a clear path that DS can find to display the content in the Content Library pane.
In other words, your DAZ Studio Library folder for content bought from the DAZ 3D store, should be listed as BOTH Poser and DS formats, because the Runtime folder is sometimes used for textures, and the library needs to be listed as both formats. The default name for the DAZ Studio content folder is now 'My DAZ 3D Library', but you can call it any name you want, as long as you give the correct paths to that folder in the Content Directory Manager for BOTH formats.
What I would suggest, is a container folder for your 3D content as suggested earlier. It should contain all of the separate library folders. Any Poser content bought from the store here, and installed by DIM, should be installed to your My DAZ 3D Library (or whatever you decide to name it) Other content which you install yourself should be installed to a separate folder (NOT inside the My DAZ 3D Library folder). Then all you need to do is to list the paths to each library in the Content Directory Manager (under BOTH formats of course)
You have a folder called My Library, DS cannot see any of that content because it is nested inside the main folder.
You also have a folder called Content, and the same applies to it.
You need to look at merging all of the content in these folders together so that DS can be given the correct path to the content, or listing them separately inside another folder.
I think, I`m on my way to understand it completely...
Everything installed through DIM goes to the default folder (in my case D:/Documents) incl. everything Poser related from a DAZ product and is listed in Contet Manager for both DAZ and Poser.
Everything not from DAZ goes to a separat Folder (maybe call it D:/Poser Files). For this folder I have a simple question... should this Folder has the same structure than the folder for the DAZ Products or should this only have the "Runtime" and its sub folders (Runtime/Libraries/...)?
I ask this because some products (not bought from DAZ) say place this files in your DAZ Studio related folder (in that case I never know if I have to place it in the Runtime folders or in the DAZ folders) and other products say place this in your Poser related Folder (wich is Runtime/Library/...).
Or should I create 2 main folders for non DAZ products? One with Runtime/Library/... and one with a DAZ folder structure (such as it is created trough DIM)?
And what about products (from other stores) wich are related to DAZ products, like new Colors for a hair or clothing that is bought in the DAZ Store? Where do I install this, in the Default DAZ folder or the Poser related folder?
And at last... if I install some obj files (not from poser) should I install this at the Poser Folder or should I create a new Folder like D:/Other Import Formats?
If I have understanding of this, I think I can structure my files in a better way.
Any files which are in DAZ Studio Format, would be best installed into My DAZ 3D Library no matter where they come from. These file types are DUF, DSA, DSB, DSE etc etc
Any figures prior to Genesis, like V4, M4 or V3 and M3 etc. etc. were already in Poser Format which is CR2 (Character), PP2 (Props) and PZ2 (Poses). If bought from the DAZ store, these will be in a Runtime folder structure DIM will install them correctly.
If bought from another store, you will need to merge the Runtime folder from the ZIP with your other Runtime folder in D:/Poser Files You can keep that as a separate folder for content bought elsewhere if you wish.
OK; I think, I already understand it.
Yes; I have a folder for other Import files (and it is a separate folder outside the default one) but this one didn`t show up in the Content Pane... or better said the folders show up inside the Content Pane but they appear empty (but they are not) I only can use it through file Import menu.
I read a lot of explanations of the file structure in the last years but never really understand it... but after your explanation of the file structure and answers of my questions, I think, I understand enough to re-organize my file structure in the next days.
In fact; this time I really understand what is necessary to organize the files.
This may not be even a small step for mankind but it is a great leap for me in understandig DAZ Studio.
Thank you for your patience and the explanations.
And if I ran into another problem during re-organisation I check back to the forum... as always...
I am glad you are getting somewhere now :)
You can tell DIM to install to whatever folder you like. You can create a new install path in DIM for the little 'gear' icon at the top right of the interface.
When you get ZIPS from other sources, and you are not sure what goes where, just post an image of what the ZIP contains to the forum here, and we will be happy to help.
