Question/help with Michael 5 Ninja suit
Not sure if I should ask here or call Daz but thought I'd give it a shot.
I bought this last weekend and have had a world of problems with the mask. Everything else has worked flawlessly. So this issue is on the mask only.
a):After applying the clothes I get what is pictured in the screen shot below, namely; the ears are sticking out of the sides of the mask (both sides) and the mask eye hole area is covering up too much of his eyes, the lower part of the mask should be down a hair but I find no way to do that, I've tried everything I could think of, at least in my limited knowledge concerning such problems. scaling the mask in any way just makes it look stupid in several different ways.
b): In the Daz knowledge database for the item there is a note concerning the mask about if it falls over the eyes, which it is. Copied verbatim here:
"To control the mask if it falls over the eyes you can increase the “Stretch Y” value of the mid “panel 22” so it will stretch back. Run 1 frame simulations until it stretches back into a desired shape."
Or the page in full can be seen here:
http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/15309/start
Now I have no idea what they are talking about whatsoever, that is way too technical by far for me to even begin to understand. I believe I found a number "22" found somewhere in the properties for the mask, may have been under surfaces, but none of it made any sense to me and "23" not "22" seemed to have something to do with the lower part of the mask. It was all foreign and too technical for me.
c) The item comes with a accessory called "ear covers." I'm not really sure what they are for. They can be seen in the lower left of the screen shot except those evidently are listed for Victoria 5, but there are more if u scoll up and those are listed for Michael 5. When I applied them they seemed to not apply right and were sunk in the head. I don't know if these are so the ears don't show or something, no clue, but they did nothing productive.
BTW, yes, I am using Michael 5 too, so it's not like I'm applying the suit to a figure it's not made for. =)

Have you tried applying the Ear Cover to M5?
Something tells me that this is a "pokethrough" remover, so it will probably hide the ears when you apply it to M5.
EDIT: I just realized this is a dynamic piece of clothing.
So your steps would be: Apply Ear Cover to M5 first, then load the head clothing and let it drape dynamically. The ear cover thingy should give you the desired draping effect.
Run 1 frame simulations until it stretches back into a desired shape.”
Seems to imply that this is a dynamic outfit?
Yep, after looking up the product, it is definitely a dynamic outfit. This means you leave your character in the "T" pose, load the outfit but do NOT "fit to" Michael 5
Go into the animate pane and move forward a few frames then pose your M5 character.
Go back to Frame 1 of the animation and drape the outfit which is done in the Dynamic clothing window from Windows -> Panes
Select animated drape and set the collision items to just what the clothing will touch.
I've not really used dynamic clothing yet, so I've only given the basics. Someone with more experience might be able to help you better.
Hi Horus, The figure's ear is too detailed and the simulation tends to get confused around it. Those ear covers when assigned to the collide with group lift the mask around the ears and prevent the mesh from deforming badly around them. You can set their opacity as zero so they don't show up
Its easier to control more detailed dynamics like masks if you have Optitex advanced control plugin where you can experiment with friction and other settings.
Even if you don't have the advanced plugin there are different things you can do. Whenever I want to move clothing I may use a primitive close to the area I want to move and set it to collide with the cloth simulation. Depending on the position of that primitive and its shape you can adjust the mask. Adding gravity to that cloth panel in the mask can also make it go down, but that's another setting of the advanced plugin
I just wanted to say thanks guys for your helpful replies. All 3 of you had very helpful info.
I never could get the ear pieces to work right even with draping. I did the animation thing but when trying to have him in a pose afterwards the suit went nuts. I think this is something to put on the back-burner for now and I think the moral to the story at least right now is I probably won't buy dynamic clothing in the future, err, well not until I do more research into it, especially for figures who have such intricate poses as in combat and such. For now I've found some other ninja clothing and I think my work flow will go faster and smoother, again for now, with that instead. I will have to come back to this in the future when more time allows. Thanks guys though for the help. =)
