2D game with character customization

By the way I read the EULA, I can make 2D renders and use them freely in any game I make. Even if those images are small ones that the user can use to composite their own character/scene.

I want to make a 2D game with character customization. I plan on rendering each accessory (clothing, hair style, props) as separate images, and layering them to create the final customized character. Further, I plan on allowing the user to tint/resize/rotate/reposition them (by small amounts, depending on item). I also plan on converting some (approx. 10%) into vector images (for better handling by Flash). (for those curious, each item would be rendered to several animation frames, some for the character editor, but most for in-game animations such as walking)

Since all of these customizations will be 2D renderings that I arranged, I figure this is okay by the EULA. None of these would be raw textures or meshes.

But, since it somewhat allows the user to make their own scene, I figured it was a bit more of a gray area than I was comfortable with, so I'm asking the forums.

If this was already covered somewhere else, then sorry for re-asking, please post a link to applicable thread(s). I read about 5 that were close, but not what I'm looking for.

First up, poll's aren't allowed on the forums without express permission, and this doesn't seem like something which needs a poll since it's a pretty resounding 'yes'. Since you're not including the actual 3D mesh, there is no issue with using still renders to create your own characters. And no license required either.

The one thing I will say is that the logistics of that could prove troublesome. If the characters vary in size or gender, you'll either need thousands of different sprites or to squash and stretch existing ones. Though, I'm sure you've already considered that. Either way, post a picture when it's done. We'd love to see how it's coming along.

These are user forums, and DAZ 3D staff seldom read through them.

If you want the answer to a particular question regarding the EULA, then use the Help button at the top of this page, then Contact Us to get the definitive answer from DAZ 3D. That way you will know for sure.

Poll removed (DAZ 3D Forum TOS, clause #17)

AS your game will only include 2d renders then you should not need a Game Developers License.

Thank you all for your quick replies :)

I am happy that DAZ3D and its marketplace will work for my project.

Thanks for removing the poll, and sorry I missed that clause in the guidelines.

I will try to remember to post some pics, or a link to an early prototype.
